BOSTON (AP) -Chris Drury fired a pass from behind the net midway through the second period, hoping to set up Brian Campbell. Instead, the puck ricocheted off Brad Stuart's leg and into the net.

Watch out NHL, the puck is bouncing the Buffalo Sabres' way again.

Drury scored twice and Martin Biron made 33 saves to lead Buffalo to a 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.

Biron, starting in place of All-Star goalie Ryan Miller for the second straight game, beat Boston for the second time in three days. He had 25 saves in Buffalo's 7-1 home win on Tuesday, helping the Sabres snap a three-game losing streak. Biron has won five straight starts against Boston, and the Sabres are 5-0-1 against the Bruins this season.

Daniel Briere had two assists, and Jason Pominville added a goal for the Sabres, who lead the Eastern Conference with 74 points despite going 6-7-1 in January. It was the worst month since December 2003 for the Sabres, who opened this season with 10 straight wins.

"January wasn't our best month," Biron said. "We knew that those two games were worth a lot for the (Bruins) to get back into the playoff picture, and it was up to us to respond. And I think it was like we wanted it to be."

After allowing an early goal to Marco Sturm, Biron was perfect. He stopped 14 shots in the second period and 12 more in the third.

Buffalo trailed 1-0 after the first period, but Drury scored twice in the second to give the Sabres the lead for good. His second goal, which bounced off Stuart and into the net, turned out to be the winner.

Pominville extended the advantage to 3-1 early in the third.

"We were a little sluggish in the first," Drury said. "We made a lot of turnovers in the first and created chances for them. We were able to fix that between the intermission, and from there I thought we were pretty good."

Tim Thomas made 25 saves for the Bruins, who have been outscored 22-4 while losing a season-high five straight.

The Bruins outshot Buffalo 34-28 - including 14-6 in the second period - but were 0-of-5 on the power play.

"The bounces are not going our way," Bruins center Patrice Bergeron said. "Obviously, we need to stay positive because it's an important time of the year and we need to get on a winning streak."

The Bruins, who earlier Thursday traded defenseman Milan Jurcina to the Washington Capitals for a draft pick, have allowed at least three goals in 15 of 17 games. They are 4-11-2 during that stretch.

"Sometimes you get pushed to the edge, and we're at the edge right now," Bruins coach Dave Lewis said. "There's two things that happen, you either fight or flee. Some guys have stepped up and fought, and others have not yet."

Notes: The Sabres are the first team since the 1995-96 Pittsburgh Penguins to have five players with at least 20 goals by Feb. 1. The Bruins have one. ... Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff started Biron to give Miller some rest following the All-Star game. Miller is expected to play at New Jersey on Saturday. ... Briere extended his point streak to seven games. ... The teams have played four times in 18 days. ... Glen Murray and Marc Savard each had assists for Boston. ... Buffalo is 5-0-1 against Boston this season.
