CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Miikka Kiprusoff didn't give the Boston Bruins a chance.
Kiprusoff stopped 26 shots in his fifth shutout of the season and the Calgary Flames beat the Bruins 3-0 on Saturday night.
"I see Kiprusoff was first star. Whoever made the three star selections is dead on, not just because he had the shutout." Calgary assistant coach Rich Preston said. "He was excellent. He made some big key, key saves."
Rookie defenseman Dion Phaneuf, Tony Amonte and Stephane Yelle scored for the Flames, who played for the first time since defeating Ottawa 2-1 a week earlier.
Kiprusoff's latest blanking improved his record to 16-8-4.
"If you move the guys out in front and box out, he's going to stop it if he can see it," said Phaneuf, who scored the winning goal. "He made some big saves for us and he's a very consistent guy on a nightly basis."
Even the Bruins were impressed by Kiprusoff.
"We still had chances and a lot of good ones, but when you get chances, you have to bear down," Boston forward Tom Fitzgerald said. "We tip our hat to him because he made the saves when he had to make them."
The Flames jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals on three of their first four shots.
With Jarome Iginla screening Boston goalie Andrew Raycroft, Phaneuf snapped a point shot into the top corner at 3:05 of the first period.
"Forwards pay the price in front and we've got to get the puck through to the net," Phaneuf said. "Ig made a good play to be in front there and it paid off."
Just 51 seconds later, Matthew Lombardi centered the puck from behind the net out to Amonte, who quickly one-timed a shot past Raycroft.
"He was in the right place," Lombardi said of Amonte. "He knows where to go, so you've just kind of got to find him and he'll put the puck in the net."
Exactly one minute later, Yelle intercepted the puck from Patrice Bergeron at the Calgary blue line during a Boston power play. Yelle then skated the length of the ice and wristed a shot into the top corner for his first goal since the opening game of the season, a stretch of 30 contests.
"I wish I could have made one of those saves at the start," said Raycroft, who made 26 saves. "It probably changes the outcome a bit."
Kiprusoff did his part to keep Boston off the scoresheet in the opening period with a nice pad save off of a close-in shot by Bruins forward Marco Sturm. Later in the period, with Boston enjoying a two-man advantage, Kiprusoff made a highlight-reel glove save on a shot by defenseman Brian Leetch.
During the same power play, Yelle blocked a shot and left the game with an ankle injury.
The Flames protected their 3-0 lead through two periods despite a pair of great scoring opportunities by Boston's P.J. Axelsson, who was denied on a breakaway by Kiprusoff before hitting the post with another shot later in the period.
In the third, the Flames played stifling defense and only allowed Boston to record eight shots.
Raycroft, the 2003-04 NHL rookie of the year, fell to 5-14-2.
Notes: Lombardi returned to the Flames lineup after missing 24 games with a high ankle sprain, sustained on Oct. 17 against Phoenix. ... The Flames lead the series against the Bruins 75-70-20-1, including a 45-28-10 record at home. ... The Flames have five wins and a shootout loss in the past six games and have only failed to gain a point twice in 20 contests. ... The Bruins have been outshot in eight consecutive games.
