Bruins-Blue Jackets Preview
Boston Bruins vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

The Boston Bruins don't see a cause for concern after consecutive losses.

The lowly Columbus Blue Jackets, surprisingly, are also seeing positives after a devastating defeat.

These teams meet for the second time this season Saturday night when the visiting Bruins try to avoid their first three-game slide in over a month.

Boston (17-9-1) lost 2-1 at Winnipeg on Tuesday and 2-0 at home to Florida two days later. Those setbacks came after a 14-0-1 stretch since the Bruins' last three-game skid Oct. 22-29.

"Scoring just a goal in the last couple of games is an issue that we should be able to overcome, and it's up to us to take care of that," coach Claude Julien said.

The Bruins aren't worried because they had 40 shots in each loss and felt they were unlucky Thursday.

"We hit four or five posts last game that very easily could have been converted into goals," center Brad Marchand said. "You know, sometimes you have games when they don't go in and sometimes you have games when they all go in. It's how the games go."

Columbus (8-16-4), meanwhile, remains the worst team in the league and fell 4-3 in overtime at home to rival Nashville on Thursday, blowing a two-goal lead in the final 1:36 of the third period.

While the loss was disappointing, the theme for the Blue Jackets during Friday's practice was strictly about moving on.

"We have to look at the positives of what we do and build on that," coach Scott Arniel told the Blue Jackets' official website. "If we get two points against Boston, that's five of six this week. That's a heck of a hockey team that's on a heck of a roll and it could (put) momentum back on our side."

Columbus has gone 5-3-3 in its last 11 with Curtis Sanford posting a 2.29 goals-against average while starting all of those games since replacing an ineffective Steve Mason. Sanford's first start was a 2-1 shootout loss at Boston on Nov. 17 in which the Blue Jackets held a 31-27 advantage in shots on goal.

"The team that we're playing tomorrow gave us a pretty good run when they were in our building the last time they came," Julien said. "They're a big heavy team. We have to understand that it's going to be hard getting to the net so we're going to have to get some pucks through and work our way into jumping on those rebounds."

Top scorer Tyler Seguin returned to Boston's lineup Thursday after missing the Winnipeg game for missing a team breakfast.

Left wing Daniel Paille did not make the trip to Columbus due to a concussion suffered against the Jets.

"He's going to be out for the time being," Julien said. "And they think it's a mild concussion, but again, you never know. We'll take it day by day."

Tuukka Rask started the first meeting versus the Blue Jackets, improving to 2-1-0 with a 1.90 GAA against them with two shootout victories. Two-time Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas is 0-1-1 with a 2.95 GAA against Columbus.

"It's a team that's playing better," Julien said. "And so we don't anticipate an easy game."
