1997 - The Bruins play the earliest opening game in their history with a 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

1999 - The Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Bruins by a 3-1 score, Boston's first season-opening loss since Oct. 9, 1986. Ray Bourque scores Boston's lone goal in the game, becoming the League's all-time goal leader amongst defenseman. [Back]

2001 - The Bruins honor Ray Borque in a pre-game ceremony by rasiing his #77 to the Fleet Center (currently known as TD Banknorth Garden) rafters. Boston defeats the Mighty Ducks of Ahaheim by a 4-2 score in that night's game. [Back]

1995 - The Bruins play their first game at the Fleet Center (currently known as TD Banknorth Garden), a 4-4 tie with the New York Islanders. Sandy Moger scores the first Bruins goal in the new building and Cam Neely scores the first hat trick.

2000 - Joe Thornton has two goal and two assists and Jason Allison adds four assists as the Bruins defeat the Flyers, 5-1. It is their first win in Philadelphia since Dec. 3, 1997. [Back]

2001 - Byron Dafoe makes 22 saves and Joe Thornton scores a goal and adds two assists as the Bruins defeat the Washington Capitals by a 4-0 score.

Glen Murray scores two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, and adds two assists in a 7-6 win in Pittsburgh. Hannu Toivonen records his first NHL win in goal and Brad Boyes scores his first NHL goal. [Back]

1989 - Reggie Lemelin makes 24 saves in a 2-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens. It is Boston’s first shutout over Montreal in Boston since Mar. 8, 1970 and the first overall since Jan. 19, 1974.

1999 -The Bruins play their first game under the League’s new four-on-four overtime format, tying the Philadelphia Flyers in a 1-1 game.

2000 - Mike Knuble scores Boston's first shorthanded goal since Dec. 19, 1998 in a 4-2 win over Florida. [Back]

1998 - The Bruins extend their opening night unbeaten streak to 9-0-3 with a 3-3 tie with the St. Louis Blues. Pre-game ceremonies on the night the B's opened the team’s 75th anniversary season included presenations of the Adams Trophy to coach Pat Burns by Don Cherry and the Calder Trophy to Sergei Samsonov by Bobby Orr, Derek Sanderson & Ray Bourque. Ken Baumgartner scored the game-tying goal in the game, his first goal since January 17, 1996. [Back]

1967 - Goalie Gerry Cheevers wears a mask for the first time in an NHL game. He earns a 4-4 tie with the Detroit Red Wings.

1970 - Tom Johnson coaches his first game as the Bruins defeat the Detroit Red Wings by a 7-3 score. Boston’s Ted Green plays his first game since suffering a fractured skull in a September, 1969 pre-season game.

1979 -  Ray Bourque has a goal and an assist in his first NHL game, a 4-0 Boston win over the Winnipeg Jets.

1984 - Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux scores his first career NHL goal on his first NHL shot in his first NHL game, a 4-3 Boston victory over the Penguins. [Back]

2007 - Marc Savard has a goal and four assists, Phil Kessel scored his first NHL hat trick and added an assist and Milan Lucic scored his first NHL goal en route to a ‘Gordie Howe Hat Trick’ in an 8-6 win in Los Angeles against the Kings. [Back]

1998 - Byron Dafoe makes 34 saves in a 3-0 win at the Colorado Avalanche for his second consecutive shutout.

2002 - Sergei Samsonov scores at 19:59 of the third period to give the Bruins a 2-1 victory at the Colorado Avalanche. [Back]

1967 - Phil Esposito ties a club record with four goals in a 6-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

2003 - Andrew Raycroft makes 27 saves for his first career NHL shutout in a 2-0 win at Dallas Stars. It is Boston’s first win in Dallas since February 16, 1994. [Back]

1949 - In pre-game ceremonies of a 2-2 tie with the New York Rangers, NHL President Clarence Campbell presents the Lady Byng Trophy to Boston’s Bill Quackenbush. He becomes the first defenseman to win the award. For the first time in Boston Garden, the ice is painted white to make following the puck easier.

1988 - Cam Neely ties a team record for points in a game with three goals and four assists in a 10-3 Boston win at the Chicago Blackhawks. Glen Wesley ties a club mark for assists In a period with four in the second in a 1-4=5 effort in the game. [Back]

2003 - Boston rallies from an 0-3 deficit to score four straight goals for a 4-3 win at Los Angeles Kings.

2005 - Brian Leetch scores his 1,000th NHL point with an assist at Montreal, becoming just the seventh defenseman in NHL history to reach that milestone and just the sixth U.S.-born player to do so. [Back]

1947 - A 3-1 Boston win over the New York Rangers is repeatedly delayed due to fog and soft ice conditions caused by 80-degree temperatures inside Boston Garden. There is a 40-minute delay after the second period so players from both teams could get their skates resharpened.

1966- Bobby Orr makes his debut in a Boston uniform and Harry Sinden is behind the bench for his first game as Boston coach as the Bruins defeat the Detroit Red Wings, 6-2. It is their first opening night victory since 1962. [Back]

1983 - The Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers play to a 3-3 tie in the first Boston overtime game since the NHL reinstated OT at the start of the 1983-84 season.

2007 -
Both Boston’s Manny Fernandez (26 saves) and New York’s Henrik Lundqvist (19 saves) earn shutouts in a 1-0 Boston shootout win over NY Rangers. [Back]

1983 - The Bruins score four power play goals in a 6-3 win vs. Pittsburgh Penguins. [Back]

1946 - A 3-3 tie with the Toronto Maple Leafs is delayed at 19:05 of the third period when a fuse blew in Boston Garden and had to be replaced.

Bobby Orr scores his first NHL goal in a 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

1982 - Normand Leveille suffers a cerebral hemorrhage in the dressing room during the first intermission of a game in Vancouver. [Back]

1945 - Milt Schmidt plays his first game since returning from RCAF duty in a 5-4 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

2002 -
The Bruins honor Terry O'Reilly in a pre-game ceremony as his #24 by raising his #24 to the FleetCenter rafters. The Bruins tie the Ottawa Senators, 2-2, in that night's game.

2005 - The Bruins lose the first shootout in their history by a 5-4 score at the Toronto Maple Leafs, despite 53 shots on goal.  [Back]

1992 - Boston goaltender Reggie Lemelin plays his 500th NHL game, a 5-3 victory at the Vancouver Canucks. [Back]

1967 - The Los Angeles Kings become the first expansion team to play In Boston Garden. Gerry Cheevers earns the shutout as the Bruins earn a 2-0 victory.

1999 -
Mike Keenan coaches his first game behind the Boston bench as the Bruins defeat the Washington Capitals by a 4-1 score. [Back]

2007 - Patrice Bergeron’s season is ended by a severe concussion after he is driven into the boards on a hit from behind by Philadelphia’s Randy Jones.  [Back]

1998 - The Bruins score five power play goals in a 9-2 win in Montreal. Three of the power play goals came in a 0:51 span of the second period (9:09, 9:34, 10:00).

1999 -
Dave Andreychuk ties a Boston club record with four goals in a 7-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

2001 - The Bruins score twice in 18 seconds to rally for a 3-3 tie at the Chicago Blackhawks. Bill Guerin scores at 19:41 of the third period to close the score to 3-2 and Joe Thornton ties the game at 19:59 of the third period. [Back]

1975 - John Bucyk scores his 500th NHL goal in a 3-2 Bruins win over the St. Louis Blues. [Back]

1981 - Boston goalie Marco Baron has his shutout bid spoiled by Hartford’s Rick Meagher at 19:59 of the third period. The Bruins defeat the Whalers, 4-1, in the game. [Back]
