Woburn, MA - On Thursday, August 19th, Boston Bruins Strength and Conditioning Coach, John Whitesides visited the Woburn Children's Library where he read "Clancy with the Puck" by Chris Mizzoni.
Following the reading, Whitesides answered questions about his job as the Strength and Conditioning Coach and about the Bruins players and their training. Whitesides also taught the twenty children in attendance how to do a correct jumping jack and finished the visit off with a "Woburn" cheer.

Hyde Park, MA - Boston Bruins Mascot, Blades, visited the Hyde Park Library in Hyde Park, MA. The visit was held in conjunction with the ReadBoston program's Storymobile that visits libraries throughout the city and provides free hardcover books to the children in attendance.
Blades was joined by storyteller Tony Tolledo and City of Boston Director of Parks and Recreation, Ryan Fitzgerald. Over sixty children from around Boston attended the event. Following the reading, Blades handed out Bruins bookmarks and helped the children pick out a favorite book.

Hanover, MA - Astronaut and Massachusetts native, Steve Bowen, visited the John Curtis Free Library in Hanover. Bowen read two children's space themed books to over forty young children. Bowen was joined by the Boston Bruins mascot, Blades. Following the reading, Bowen answered a series of questions about life as an astronaut and his experience in space, posed for photos, and signed autographs for the children. The Bruins presented Bowen with a custom Boston Bruins jersey.
The visit helped kick-off the Bruins Summer reading program in conjunction with the Massachusetts Board of Libraries Commissioners, When You Read, You Score!. When You Read, You Score! is a free summer program offered through Massachusetts libraries for children in grades K-6. Children are encouraged to track their reading online through the program. At the end of August one lucky winner will be selected from the top readers across the state to receive a Bruins VIP Package.
About When You Read, You Score!
This summer, the Boston Bruins have joined forces with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to present a summer reading program to children across the Commonwealth, "When You Read, You Score!"
Throughout the summer, children and their parents are encouraged to sign-up for the program entitled "Starship Adventure Summer Reading Program" on www.readsinma.org. There participants can choose what they want to read, track their progress online and write online book reviews.
A special Bruins reading list will let kids and teens know what books the players are reading themselves, with their families or remember from their own childhood.
Each child who completes the program will receive a Boston Bruins bookmark and certificate with a Bruins sticker.
However, one lucky child who participates in the program will win a Bruins VIP Experience including: Parking, 4 tickets, the opportunity to be bench assistant for one child between ages of 6-12, a between periods Family High Five, a Zamboni ride (must be 12 or older) and a postgame meet and greet at a 2009-10 Boston Bruins home game.
