B's Sign D Christopher Breen to a One-Year, Two-Way Contract
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Bruins announced today, July 1, that the club has signed defenseman Christopher Breen to a one-year, two-way contract. Breen’s contract is worth $600,000 at the NHL level and $175,000 at the AHL level.
Breen appeared in nine games for Calgary in the 2013-14 campaign, posting two assists with a plus-one rating and five penalty minutes. Breen made his NHL debut with the Flames on October 22, 2013 against the Phoenix Coyotes in Glendale, AZ.
The 25-year-old blueliner played the majority of his previous five seasons for the Calgary’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat, where he appeared in 245 games. During his time with the Heat the 6’7’’, 224-pound defenseman posted nine goals and 21 assists with 172 penalty minutes.
Prior to joining Abbotsford, Breen skated in 249 games in the Ontario Hockey League between his time with the Saginaw Spirit (125 games, 2005-2009), Erie Otters (71 games, 2008-10) and Peterborough Petes (53 games, 2009-10). In total, the Uxbridge, ONT native tallied 5-31=36 totals at the OHL level.
Breen first signed with Calgary as a free agent on May 30, 2010.
