Boston Bruins Sign Goaltender Niklas Svedberg to a One-Year, One-Way Contract
BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, June 23, that the club has signed goaltender Niklas Svedberg to a one-year, one way contract worth a cap figure of $600,000.

Svedberg appeared in his first and only NHL game last season with Boston, earning a win against the Nashville Predators in a 3-2 overtime victory, making 33 saves on 35 shots.

The Swedish netminder finished the 2013-14 season with Providence (American Hockey League), compiling a 25-15-4 record with a 2.63 goals against average and .910 save percentage with two shutouts in 45 appearances.

The 2012-13 campaign with the P-Bruins saw Svedberg win 37 games (second in the AHL) with a 2.17 goals against average (fifth in the AHL), .925 save percentage (third in the AHL) and four shutouts to earn himself the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award, which is given annually to the AHL’s outstanding goaltender as voted on by coaches, players and members of the media in each of the league’s 30 member cities. Svedberg’s 37 wins were the second most by a rookie goaltender in AHL history. Svedberg also became the first rookie to be named the AHL’s outstanding goaltender since Jim Carey in the 1994-95 campaign.

In total, Svedberg has appeared in 102 AHL games and compiled a 66-27-6 record.

Prior to joining Providence, Svedberg skated in three full seasons in the SEL (Swedish Elite League) with MoDo and Brynas with a combined 2.94 career goals against average in 64 games.

The 6’0", 176-pound goaltender hails from Sollentuna, Sweden and was signed by Boston as a free agent on May 29, 2012.
