Beard-A-Thon Raises Nearly $90K
During the 2014 Beard-A-Thon, the Boston faithful helped raise $89,923 for the Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation and the Boston Bruins Foundation.

Every postseason, the playoff beard takes on a life of its own, and every postseason, Bruins fans take it to another level.

During the 2014 Beard-A-Thon, the Boston faithful helped raise $89,923 for the Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation and the Boston Bruins Foundation.

That mark hit the top of the League rankings, nearly double the next closest team.

More than 1,150 of you put down your razors to get behind the cause and "grow one for Boston" alongside the Bruins, and more than 2,000 fans made donations. Top grower Jason Beckett of Milton, Mass., helped the cause by raising more than $14,000.

Year after year, Bruins' fans are consistently way atop the leaderboard. Thanks to all of those who donated!

The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation Inc., is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation formed by Bill and Denise Richard, parents of eight-year-old Martin Richard, who was killed at the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013. Martin was an 8-year-old boy who loved learning, sports and the world around him.  He participated in the BAA Children’s Relay on Marathon weekend for three consecutive years.  He was a school peacemaker and recognized at a young age that while we are all different, we are all the same.  The way Martin saw the world anything was possible. The Foundation was formed on January 2, 2014, to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the prescribed limits of 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service.

The Boston Bruins Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation whose mission is to assist charitable organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children throughout New England. Since its inception in July 2003 by the Jacobs Family, it has raised more than $17 million dollars through a series of fundraising events. The Foundation, which provides grants to organizations that meet the standards of its mission, concentrates on athletics, academics, health, and community outreach programs that assist in helping enrich the lives of children throughout New England.
