Bruins Week Ahead: 4\/25 - 5\/2

Tuukka Rask has been named one of three finalists for the 2013-14 Vezina Trophy. The Vezina Trophy is awarded annually "to the goaltender adjudged to be the best at his position.” The other finalists for the award are Ben Bishop of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Semyon Varlamov of the Colorado Avalanche.

Rask finished the regular season establishing career bests in shutouts (7), wins (36) and games played (58). His shutout total led all NHL goaltenders while his 36 wins ranked fifth. Rask also posted a 2.04 goals against average (fourth in the NHL) and his .930 save percentage was second only to Minnesota's Josh Harding (.933 in 29 games). Rask surrendered two or less goals in 38 of his 58 appearances in the 2013-14 regular season. This marks Rask's first nomination for the Vezina Trophy.
Patrice Bergeron has been named one of three finalists for the 2014 Frank J. Selke Trophy. The Selke Trophy is awarded annually "to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game.” The other finalists are Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks and Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings.

Bergeron completed the 2014 campaign ranked third in the league in faceoff percentage, winning puck drops at a 58.6% rate (1,015-for-1,732), with his 1,015 faceoff wins leading the NHL. Often charged with the task of shutting down the oppositions top line in both even strength and shorthanded situations, the centerman finished second in the league in plus/minus rating at +38, behind teammate David Krejci (+39). Bergeron finished 66 of 80 regular games played with an even or positive rating.

Serving as one of the Bruins primary penalty killers, Bergeron was critical to the B's shorthanded special teams success, helping the Black & Gold finish eighth in the league on the PK (83.6%). Offensively, Bergeron enjoyed a very successful season, finishing tied for first on the Bruins in goals (30), second in points (62) and tied for third in assists (32). Bergeron won the award for the first time following the 2011-12 season and this marks the third consecutive year Bergeron has been a finalist.

BEHIND THE B TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT PLAYOFF RUN: The team will continue to release episodes of “Behind the B” presented by Alex and Ani throughout the team's 2014 Stanley Cup playoff run. There will be one episode for each round the Bruins play in with air dates and times on NESN confirmed once the respective series concludes. Other exclusive Behind the B related content will be available on and the Boston Bruins Digital Entertainment Network (Bruins DEN) throughout the season.

Dougie Hamilton and Jordan Caron both scored their first career NHL playoff goals on Tuesday, March 22 in Game 3 of Round 1 against Detroit. Kevan Miller and Reilly Smith both tallied their first career NHL playoff assists in that same game which marked Miller’s first career playoff point, it was Smith’s second career playoff point (goal in Game 2). Carl Soderberg notched an assist on Thursday, April 24 in Game 4 giving him his first career NHL playoff point. Also in Game 4, Jarome Iginla scored his first career NHL playoff overtime goal. Four of the last 10 goals in the Round 1 series have been scored by players tallying their first playoff goals in their NHL career (Game 2 - Justin Florek, Reilly Smith; Game 3 - Dougie Hamilton, Jordan Caron).

On Thursday, April 24 against the Detroit Red Wings, Round 1, Game 4, Head Coach Claude Julien coached his 100th career NHL playoff game. Since becoming the leader behind the bench for the B’s, he has brought his team to the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons, winning the Stanley Cup in 2011. Julien has accumulated a 57-43 overall playoff record as a head coach, and currently holds a 53-36 record in the playoffs since joining the Bruins in 2007.

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK (TOTW): In the 31st week of the Boston Bruins Media Tweet of the Week, Dale Arnold wins the top spot for his tweet announcing Patrice Bergeron as a Selke finalist.

@DaleArnold: BREAKING: Patrice Bergeron is one of the three best defensive forwards in the NHL and a Selke finalist. Kidding about "breaking." #weknow

This week’s honorable mentions listed in no particular order:
@DJ_Bean: Zetterberg's presence means I am guaranteed to botch nicknames when transcribing. Series now has a Zee and a Z. #Bruins #RedWings
@TheBruinsBlog: Kevan Miller said he couldn't take solid foods until Friday afternoon. So it was a good Friday.
@GlobeFluto: Coffee maker is fixed. Safe to assume Bruins got rid of that Game 1 decaf.
@GlobeKPD: I've lost exact count, but it seems half the #RedWings team is at the orthopod's office, the other half at the maternity wing.
@DJ_Bean: Scorers in this series are Datsyuk, Florek and Reilly Smith. Florek and Smith hadn't scored in playoffs before. Will check on Datsyuk.
@JamieErdahl: Just met Justin Florek's Mom - had NEVER been to NHL game before Friday! "My first one was always going to be when Justin was on the ice."
@TheBruinsBlog: Considering their poor showing yesterday, octopus throwers should be here to hone their craft today at practice
