Reilly Smith Named Recipient of NESN\'s Seventh Player Award

Boston, MA - The Boston Bruins and NESN announced Saturday, April 5, that Bruins forward Reilly Smith has been named the winner of NESN's Seventh Player Award presented by Central Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Central Auto Team of Norwood.  Voted on by Bruins fans online at NESN.com, NESN's Seventh Player Award is an annual award presented to the Bruin who exceeded the expectations of Bruins fans during the 2013-14 season.

In his first season with the Bruins, Smith has recorded 19 goals (fifth on the team) and 30 assists (tied for fourth on the team) for 49 points (fifth on the team), marking NHL career-highs in all categories. The winger had a season and career best seven-game point-streak from January 14 to January 28 that saw him rack up three goals and five assists with a plus-eight rating.  In addition to his three game-winning goals this year (10/17 at FLA, 12/10 at CGY, 12/23 at NSH), Smith has recorded deciding shootout goals twice, with his tallies against the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 8 and the Philadelphia Flyers on March 30.

Before the Bruins acquired the 23-year-old winger from the Dallas Stars on July 4, 2013, Smith appeared in 40 total games with Dallas (2011-13), notching three goals and six assists for nine points. Prior to joining the Dallas system, Smith played for three seasons at Miami University (Ohio), where he skated in 121 games, tallying 66 goals and 56 assists for 122 points.  Smith led Miami University in 2010-11 and 2012-13 in goals with 28 and 30 respectively.

The 6’0’, 185-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the third round (69th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the Bruins along with Loui Eriksson, Matt Fraser and Joe Morrow from Dallas in exchange for Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button on July 4, 2013.

In addition to the Seventh Player Award trophy, Smith will receive $5,000 to donate to the charity of his choice.

Recent past recipients include: Dougie Hamilton (2013), Tyler Seguin (2012), Brad Marchand (2011), Tuukka Rask (2010), David Krejci (2009) and Milan Lucic (2008).

NESN’s voice of the Boston Bruins Jack Edwards will host an on-ice pregame ceremony before the Bruins/Flyers game on April 5, 2014 to give Smith his award.

The Seventh Player Award Sweepstakes winner is Bruce Fisher of Biddeford, ME. Bruce wins a three-year lease on a 2014 Jeep Cherokee courtesy of Central Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Central Auto Team of Norwood.
