Jarome Iginla Named the NHL\'s First Star of the Month for March

BOSTON, MA - The NHL announced Thursday, April 1, that Bruins forward Jarome Iginla has been named the NHL’s First Star of the Month for the month of March. Detroit’s Gustav Nyquist and Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux were named second and third stars of the month, respectively.

Iginla registered 13 goals in March, including four two-goal games and five game-winning goals. The 36-year-old also chipped in four assists, giving him 17 points in 17 games played. Iginla had six multiple point games in March while accumulating a plus-12 rating.  The winger had a month-best six-game point streak from March 9 to March 18 when he tallied 7-1=8 totals.

Iginla reached two milestones this month, playing in his 1,300th NHL game on March 17 against the Wild, while also passing John Bucyk on the NHL's all-time goals list with two strikes against the Colorado Avalanche on March 21. The right wing enters April tied for 24th on the NHL's all-time goal scoring list with Guy Lafleur at 560.

The forward is currently tied for third in the league in plus/minus rating at plus-34 (Matt Niskanen, PIT) and tied for 13th in goals with 30 (Jamie Benn, DAL; Ryan Johansen, CBJ; Jeff Skinner, CAR).

The 6'1'', 210-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta is first on the Bruins in goals (30), second in points (61) and third in assists (31) and plus/minus rating (+34).
