Boston Bruins Activate Loui Eriksson and Assign Justin Florek to Providence

BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, January 11, that the team has activated Loui Eriksson from Injured Reserve and assigned Justin Florek to Providence (American Hockey League).

Eriksson will be eligible for Saturday's game against the San Jose Sharks after missing 15 games after a sustaining a concussion against the Pittsburgh Penguins on December 7.

Eriksson has skated in 24 games with Boston this season, registering five goals and nine assists with a plus-eight rating. In total, Eriksson has played 525 NHL games, racking up 155 goals and 216 assists for 371 points.

The 6’2’’, 196-pound native of Gotenberg, Sweden was selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The Bruins acquired Eriksson on July 4, 2013 with Matt Fraser, Joe Morrow and Reilly Smith in exchange for Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button.

Florek appeared in three games for Boston after being recalled on January 6, and earned his first NHL goal on January 9 against the Kings in Los Angeles.

Florek has skated in 35 games this season with Providence, registering nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points with a plus-12 rating (tied for the team lead).

In total, the 23-year-old forward has skated in 114 AHL games with the Providence Bruins (2012-14), accruing 22 goals and 31 assists with a combined plus-27 rating. In the 2013 AHL postseason, Florek appeared in 12 games for Providence and tallied 1-2=3 totals.

Prior to joining the Providence Bruins, Florek played for four seasons (2008-12) at Northern Michigan University, where he skated in 157 collegiate games, recording 54 goals and 63 assists. Florek was named captain of the Wildcats his senior season.

The 6'4'', 199-pound native of Marquette, MI was drafted by Boston in the fifth round (135th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
