Boston Bruins Recall Kevan Miller on an Emergency Basis

BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, December 30, that the team has recalled defenseman Kevan Miller from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis (American Hockey League). Miller will join the team for practice on Monday at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, MA.

Miller has appeared with nine games with Boston this season after earning his first NHL recall on November 20, making his NHL debut on November 21 against the St. Louis Blues at TD Garden. The defenseman notched his first NHL goal versus the Maple Leafs in Toronto on December 8, which proved to be the game-winning goal. In total, Miller has one goal and one assist with a plus-two rating with Boston thus far.

The 26-year-old has skated in 19 games with the Providence Bruins this season and has registered two goals and three assists with 39 penalty minutes.  The blueliner has skated in 154 AHL games with Providence from 2011-2013, notching seven goals and 38 assists.  Miller appeared in nine AHL playoff games for Providence in 2013 and accrued five assists with a plus-four rating.

Prior to joining the P-Bruins in 2011, Miller played at the University of Vermont for four seasons from 2007-2010.  In his collegiate career, Miller appeared in 144 games for the Catamounts and amassed 5-25=30 totals with 97 penalty minutes.

The 6’2’’, 210-pound native of Los Angeles, California was signed by Boston as a free agent on October 21, 2011.
