Chiarelli Announces Roster Transactions on 12/8
Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, December 8, that forward Chris Kelly has been placed on long-term injured reserve after sustaining a fractured right fibula in the second period of the Bruins/Penguins game on Saturday, December 7. He is expected to miss four to six weeks.
Chiarelli also announced that Adam McQuaid has been placed on injured reserve and that the team has recalled forwards Matt Fraser and Ryan Spooner from the Providence Bruins (American Hockey League) on an emergency basis. Fraser and Spooner will join the team in Toronto on Sunday, December 8 and be available for their game against the Maple Leafs Sunday night.
Fraser has appeared in 23 games with the Providence Bruins this season, recording 16 goals (ranks second in the AHL) and five assists for 21 points (ranks second on the team) with 23 penalty minutes.
Fraser spent two seasons (2011-2013) with the Texas Stars (American Hockey League) with the Dallas Stars organization, recording 70 goals and 31 assists for 101 points.
The forward appeared in a total of 13 NHL games with the Dallas Stars earning a goal and two assists before joining the Bruins organization.
Spooner has skated in 21 games with the Providence Bruins this year, earning five goals and 19 assists (tied for second in the AHL) for 24 points (leads the team) with six penalty minutes.
In total, the 21-year-old Spooner has skated is 88 AHL games with Providence from 2010 to 2013, accruing 25 goals and 63 assists for 87 points. He has skated in six NHL games with the Bruins and recorded two assists.
The 5’10’’, 180-pound native of Kanata, Ontario was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round (45th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
