THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD: 12/7 - 12/13

THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS…

TOYS FOR TOTS COLLECTION DRIVE:  The Boston Bruins will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the U.S. Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program at the following Bruins home games in December: Saturday, December 7 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins, Tuesday, December 17 vs. Calgary Flames, and Saturday, December 21 vs. Buffalo Sabres.  U.S. Marines will be stationed at the TD Garden entrance turnstiles, the Community Corner located in Loge 4, and on the balcony level collecting toys and monetary donations.  For every toy donation or $10 donation, fans will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into a drawing for Bruins autographed memorabilia including a team-autographed jersey, team-autographed stick, and a player-autographed puck & photo.

About Toys for Tots
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.  For more information visit http://www.toysfortots.org. BRUINS PASS CLINIC SERIES TO VISIT NH, VT & ME: TD Bank and the Boston Bruins have teamed up for the eighth straight year to support New England youth hockey through the P.A.S.S. (Partnership to Assist Skaters and Shooters) clinic series. The next P.A.S.S. clinic will be held on Monday, December 9 at West Side Arena in Manchester, NH and will begin at 4:45 p.m. P.A.S.S will continue north to Vermont to host a clinic on Tuesday, December 10 at Cairns Arena in South Burlington beginning at 5:20 p.m.  Their final stop of the week will take place in Brunswick, ME on Thursday, December 12 at Bowdoin Rink with a start time of 5:15 p.m. P.A.S.S. features a free on-ice clinic conducted by Bruins alumni and members of the Boston Bruins Youth Hockey Development Team. The clinic includes instruction on hockey fundamentals such as skating, passing and shooting, as well as a $1000 donation from TD Bank to each hosting youth hockey organization. In addition, each individual participant will receive two tickets to an upcoming Bruins game as well as a TD Bank P.A.S.S. jersey and gift bag. P.A.S.S. clinics are open to youth hockey players between the ages of 8 and 12. For more information, please see the “Around Town” section of the Week Ahead.

BEHIND THE B PRESENTED BY ALEX AND ANI AIR DATES: The Boston Bruins announced the remaining air dates for Behind the B presented by Alex and Ani.  All episodes of “Behind the B” will air on NESN and can be streamed online at bostonbruins.com/behindtheb. Other exclusive “Behind the B” related content will be available on bostonbruins.com and the Boston Bruins Digital Entertainment Network (Bruins DEN) throughout the season.

PUCKS & PUPS 2014 CALENDAR: The Bruins announced the Pucks & Pups 2014 Bruins calendar, which will benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation and MSPCA Angell. Pucks & Pups is a unique 2014 calendar featuring Bruins players and management photographed with their pets or with adoptable dogs from the MSPCA. Players featured in the calendar include Johnny Boychuk, Gregory Campbell, Zdeno Chara, Jarome Iginla, Chris Kelly, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Daniel Paille, Tuukka Rask, Dennis Seidenberg, and Shawn Thornton. Bruins Principal Charlie Jacobs, President Cam Neely, General Manager Peter Chiarelli and Head Coach Claude Julien also participated in the project. BOSTON BRUINS 90TH ANNIVERSARY:
The Boston Bruins will pay tribute to 90 years of history during ten select home games throughout the 2013-14 season. The organization will honor each of the ten decades of Bruins hockey as part of the 90 Years Celebration presented by Alex and Ani.  The next celebration game will take place on Tuesday, December 17 vs. the Calgary Flames, where Bruins legend Terry O'Reilly will drop the ceremonial first puck to begin that night's tribute to the Bruins of the 1980's. The first 5,000 fans will receive a limited edition Terry O'Reilly Holiday Ornament courtesy of TD Bank.

STATS YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING…

GOING THE DISTANCE: The Bruins will begin their first of two season long road trips, spanning from December 8 to December 14 and will consist of four games in Canada.  The Black & Gold will visit the cities of Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, traveling over 5,200 miles in eight days before returning home to Boston.  The Bruins second season-long road trip will begin on March 29 and conclude on April 3 when the team visits Washington, Philadelphia, Detroit and Toronto.

TUUKKA STANDING TALL: Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask has remained solid in net for the Bruins this season, yielding a 14-7-2 record with a 1.90 GAA (fourth in the NHL) and .934 save percentage (fourth in the NHL).  In 11 of his 23 starts, Rask has allowed just one goal or fewer, including two shutouts against the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 19 and November 11.

KRUG AMONG ROOKIE LEADERS: Bruins defenseman Torey Krug has had a strong season thus far for the Bruins, ranking fourth among NHL rookies in goals with seven and is tied for fourth in assists with nine.  Krug’s eight power play points are tied for first among rookies (Eric Gelinas, New Jersey) with his three power play goals tied for first and five power play assists ranked second.

UPCOMING GAMES…

CANADIAN ROAD TRIP: The Bruins, who have four matchups scheduled for this upcoming week, will kick off the series at the TD Garden where they’ll play the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, December 7, at 7:00 p.m.  The B’s will then begin their four-game road trip, leaving Boston immediately following the Pittsburgh game to take on the Maple Leafs on Sunday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m.  The B’s will then travel west as the Calgary Flames host the Bruins on Tuesday, December 10, at 9:30 p.m. The Black & Gold will finish out the week with a matchup game against the Oilers in Edmonton on Thursday, December 12, at 9:30 p.m. 

UPCOMING GAMES BROADCAST SCHEDULE: The NESN broadcast team of Jack Edwards, Andy Brickley and Jamie Erdahl will be covering all of this week’s upcoming Bruins games beginning with Saturday’s game against the Penguins in Boston as well as the B’s away matchups against the Maple Leafs, Flames and Oilers.  The tandem of Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will handle all radio duties on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

BRUINS ON THE AIRWAVES: Bruins defenseman Torey Krug has been confirmed as a weekly call-in guest with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak (Gresh and Zo), which airs weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  General Manager Peter Chiarelli and Johnny Boychuk are expected to be regular guests on 98.5 as well with Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb (Toucher and Rich), which airs weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  Call-in days and times are dependent upon the B’s schedule.

182 AND COUNTING: Following Saturday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Boston Bruins have sold out 182 straight regular season and playoff games. This sellout streak began more than three years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

OFF THE ICE…

PATRICE’S PALS: As a part of his continuing charitable initiative Patrice’s Pals, Bruins alternate captain Patrice Bergeron invites children from local hospitals and other organizations to experience a Bruins home game from his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags filled with Bruins memorabilia, a visit from the Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls, as well as a feature on the Garden HDX.  After the game, Patrice’s Pals are escorted to ice level and introduced to Patrice himself who signs autographs and takes pictures with his Pals. This will take place at all Boston Bruins home games during the 2013-14 season.

SAVVY’S SUITE: Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard has partnered with the Brain Injury Center at Children’s Hospital Boston, inviting children who suffer from the effects of Brain Trauma, both physically and psychologically, to attend a Bruins home game in his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags with Bruins memorabilia and a visit from Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls. Savard started the program on Thursday, January 12, 2012, and it will continue through the end of the 2013-14 Bruins season.

COMMUNITY TICKET PROGRAM: For the entirety of the Boston Bruins 2013-14 regular season, Bruins Principal and Alternate Governor Charlie Jacobs is donating ten balcony tickets to every home game to children from charitable organizations across New England, who are invited to enjoy a Bruins home game from these donated seats.

BRAD’S BRIGADE IS BACK: The 2013-14 season marks an exciting new chapter for Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand’s charitable program, “Brad’s Brigade”.  Established in 2010, Marchand’s program invites children from pediatric oncology units across New England to experience a Bruins home game. Children and their families sit in the loge section and are featured on the Garden HDX.  Each family also receives a Brad’s Brigade T-Shirt, a Garden Gold Card and a goodie bag with Bruins memorabilia.  At the conclusion of the game, families are escorted down to ice level where they have the opportunity to meet Marchand and get a photo taken with him.
