THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS…

BRUINS TO HOST PROGERIA NIGHT: On Saturday, November 9, the Boston Bruins will be honoring Foxboro, MA native Sam Berns as the B’s host Progeria Night during their home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden.  Progeria, an accelerated aging disease, affects one in every four to eight million newborns.  Sam has a documentary titled “Life According to Sam” out on HBO about his experience with the disease.  He will be participating in various activities during the game including dropping the puck before the start of the game.  For more information, please see the “Around Town” section of the Week Ahead.

B'S TO HOST MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY: The B's will honor local military members, veterans, and their families at Military Appreciation Day presented by the Army National Guard of Massachusetts and New Hampshire on Monday, November 11 at 1:00 p.m. during the Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning game at the TD Garden. To show their support for the armed forces on this upcoming Veterans Day, Bruins players Matt Bartkowski, Johnny Boychuk, David Krejci, Torey Krug and Dennis Seidenberg, will each purchase $2,500 worth of tickets to the Bruins/Lightning game to give to local military members and their families.  The military members who sit in these player-donated seats will have the opportunity to meet the players postgame.  Additionally, the Boston Bruins Foundation will be auctioning off special raffle items at the Foundation table, including B’s military jerseys and sticks used by the Bruins during warmups.  Fans can follow the lead of their favorite Bruins player by purchasing seats for donation to the “Seats for Soldiers” program by visiting bostonbruins.com/military or calling 617-624-1805.

FROSTED FALL BENEFIT: On Friday, November 8, the Boston Bruins Foundation will participate in the third annual Frosted Fall Benefit sponsored by Sam Adams, presented by StinkySocks Hockey and Bruins Daily at Cask'N Flagon from 8:00 p.m. to close.  Net Proceeds from the event go directly to the Boston Bruins Foundation to support charities through out New England that enhance the quality of life of children. Special appearances will be made by Executive Director of the Boston Bruins Foundation & B’s Alumni Bob Sweeney, Lyndon Byers, Rene Rancourt, the Bruins Ice Girls, and other Boston Bruins Alumni. BEHIND THE B PRESENTED BY ALEX AND ANI AIR DATES ANNOUNCED:  The Boston Bruins have announced the ten remaining air dates for Behind the B presented by Alex and Ani, including the fourth episode which is set to air this Monday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. on NESN.  All 30-minute episodes of “Behind the B” will air on NESN and can be streamed online at bostonbruins.com/behindtheb. Other exclusive “Behind the B” related content will be available on bostonbruins.com and the Boston Bruins Digital Entertainment Network (Bruins DEN) throughout the season.

BOSTON BRUINS STREET BRIGADE: Bruins Street Brigade brings the sport of hockey to schools, community centers and other places where children can play in a safe and structured environment. Hockey equipment is donated and instructions are provided for children to learn and enjoy hockey free of charge. This special stop of the tour will visit military children on Hanscom Air Force Base on Wednesday November 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., teaching kids the sport of hockey for free. BOSTON BRUINS PASS CLINIC SERIES:
TD Bank and the Boston Bruins have teamed up for the eighth straight year to support New England youth hockey through the P.A.S.S. (Partnership to Assist Skaters and Shooters) clinic series.  P.A.S.S. features a free on-ice clinic conducted by Bruins alumni and members of the Boston Bruins Youth Hockey Development Team.  This week, P.A.S.S. will head to John J. Janas Rink in Lowell, MA on Tuesday, November 12 and will feature Bruins Alumni Tommy Songin. The clinic will being at 5:00 p.m. and will include instruction on hockey fundamentals such as skating, passing and shooting, as well as a $1,000 donation from TD Bank. In addition, each individual participant will receive two tickets to an upcoming Bruins game as well as a TD Bank P.A.S.S. jersey and gift bag.  P.A.S.S. clinics are open to youth hockey players between the ages of eight and 12.  For more information, please see the “Around Town” section of the Week Ahead.

12 BRUINS PARTICIPATING IN MOVEMBER: Bruins players Matt Bartkowski, Patrice Bergeron, Gregory Campbell, Loui Eriksson, Dougie Hamilton, Chris Kelly, David Krejci, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Daniel Paille, Dennis Seidenberg, and Shawn Thornton will participate in the Movember movement by growing and maintaining moustaches during the month of November in order to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. To kick off their month-long participation in Movember the players got a clean shave, provided by Gillette, on Thursday, October 31 at TD Garden after their game against the Anaheim Ducks.  Gillette donated $1,000 to each of the player’s Movember pages to jumpstart their fundraising. Fans can get involved by donating to their favorite player’s Movember page or by starting their own at bostonbruins.com/movember. Bruins prizes will be awarded weekly to the fan with the best Mo. BOSTON BRUINS 90TH ANNIVERSARY:
The Boston Bruins will pay tribute to 90 years of history during ten select home games throughout the 2013-14 season. The organization will honor each of the ten decades of Bruins hockey as part of the 90 Years Celebration presented by Alex and Ani.  The next celebration game will take place on Thursday, November 21 vs. the St. Louis Blues, where legendary Bruins defenseman Bobby Orr will drop the ceremonial first puck to begin that night's tribute to the Bruins of the 1970's.

STATS YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING…

KRUG KRUISING:  Bruins D-man Torey Krug scored his sixth goal of the season in Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers, which puts him in second on the Bruins in the goal scoring-department entering this weekend.  Krug’s six goals are tied for first in the NHL among defensemen with Ottawa’s Erik Karlsson, while his nine points (6-3=9) rank first among NHL rookie defenseman.

KREJCI PACING THE BRUINS:  Bruins centerman David Krejci continued his hot play, notching an assist (11/5 vs. DAL) and a goal (11/7 vs. FLA) in three games this past week, giving him three goals and 12 assists for 15 points through 15 games this season.  Krejci’s 12 assists and 15 points lead the Bruins.

SMITH ON A ROLL: Bruins winger Reilly Smith has had a strong showing in his first season in the Bruins organization, ranking third on the team with ten points (2-8=10) through 15 games.  Smith had a multiple-point game (first of his career) against the Florida Panthers on Thursday with a goal and an assist, giving him 1-3=4 totals in his last three games.  The 22-year-old Smith appeared in 37 games with Dallas last season, where he accrued three goals and six assists with a plus-eight rating.  The forward also appeared in 45 games for the Texas Stars (Dallas Stars American Hockey League affiliate) in 2012-13, where he scored 14 goals and tallied 21 assists with a plus-13 rating.

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT: The Bruins had two fighting majors in Thursday's game against the Florida Panthers with Gregory Campbell dropping the mitts with Jesse Winchester and Shawn Thornton's tussle with Krys Barch.  With the 4-1 victory over the Panthers, the Bruins enter the weekend with a 5-2-0 record this season in games that they have been assessed at least one fighting major and a 47-22-3 mark since the start of the 2011-12 season in games in which they have had a fight.  Thornton has fought Barch seven times in the NHL. The only player he's fought more is Eric Boulton of the New York Islanders (eight times).

B’S FINISH UP SEASON-LONG HOMESTAND: Following this Saturday’s home game at 7:00 p.m. against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bruins will prepare for two more home matchups at TD Garden the subsequent week.  The Monday, November 11, 1:00 p.m. matchup will see the Bruins play the Tampa Bay Lightning for the third time this season, with the B’s winning the previous two battles. The Black & Gold will finish up their season-long five-game homestand and take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in their second matchup this year on Thursday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m.  The B’s will then travel to Ottawa to play the Senators on Friday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m.

UPCOMING GAMES BROADCAST SCHEDULE: The NESN broadcast team of Jack Edwards, Andy Brickley and Jamie Erdahl will be covering all of the Bruins games scheduled for this week, including all three home games, beginning with Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.  The NESN team will see the Bruins play Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday, November 11 and then the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, November 14 at the Garden before travelling to Ontario to watch the B’s play the Ottawa Senators the following night.  The tandem of Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will handle all radio duties on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

174 AND COUNTING: Following Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers, the Boston Bruins have sold out 174 straight regular season and playoff games. This sellout streak began more than three years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

OFF THE ICE…

PATRICE’S PALS: As a part of his continuing charitable initiative Patrice’s Pals, Bruins alternate captain Patrice Bergeron invites children from local hospitals and other organizations to experience a Bruins home game from his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags filled with Bruins memorabilia, a visit from the Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls, as well as a feature on the Garden HDX.  After the game, Patrice’s Pals are escorted to ice level and introduced to Patrice himself who signs autographs and takes pictures with his Pals. This will take place at all Boston Bruins home games during the 2013-14 season.

SAVVY’S SUITE: Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard has partnered with the Brain Injury Center at Children’s Hospital Boston, inviting children who suffer from the effects of Brain Trauma, both physically and psychologically, to attend a Bruins home game in his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags with Bruins memorabilia and a visit from Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls. Savard started the program on Thursday, January 12, 2012, and it will continue through the end of the 2013-14 Bruins season.

COMMUNITY TICKET PROGRAM:
For the entirety of the Boston Bruins 2013-14 regular season, Bruins Principal and Alternate Governor Charlie Jacobs is donating ten balcony tickets to every home game to children from charitable organizations across New England, who are invited to enjoy a Bruins home game from these donated seats.

BRAD’S BRIGADE IS BACK: 
The 2013-14 season marks an exciting new chapter for Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand’s charitable program, “Brad’s Brigade”.  Established in 2010, Marchand’s program invites children from pediatric oncology units across New England to experience a Bruins home game. Children and their families sit in the loge section and are featured on the Garden HDX.  Each family also receives a Brad’s Brigade T-Shirt, a Garden Gold Card and a goodie bag with Bruins memorabilia.  At the conclusion of the game, families are escorted down to ice level where they have the opportunity to meet Marchand and get a photo taken with him.
