BRUINS (3-2-0) AT PANTHERS (2-5-0)

10:05 pm - Third Period Snapshots: FINAL BOS 3, FLA 2

SMITH MAKES HIS FIRST COUNT, LIFTS B'S TO WIN: With 58.7 seconds to go in the third frame, Reilly Smith was able to send a backhander past Florida's Tim Thomas, five-hole for his first goal as a Boston Bruin, which proved to be the game winner.  Earning assists on the play were Patrice Bergeron (2) and Torey Krug (2). With that goal, Reilly Smith extends his point streak to three straight games with one goal and two assists during that time.  The Bruins are back in action on Saturday as they take on the Lightning in Tampa Bay at 7:00 pm ET.

WINCHESTER TIES IT:
With six minutes to go in the third period, Jesse Winchester was able to knot the game at two, whacking in his own in rebound past Tuukka Rask glove-side on in front of the Bruins crease. Winchester's goal is his first of the season with Nick Bjugstad getting credited with the assist on the play for his first point of the year.

BRUINS GO ON THE PP:
At 6:24 into the third period, Florida's Dmitry Kulikov was called for a double minor when his stick clipped David Krejci in the face putting the Bruins on an extended four minute power play. The Bruins registered three shots on goal during the man advantage from Jarome Iginla, Zdeno Chara and Torey Krug, but the pressure wasn't enough as Florida was able to kill off the penalty to Kulikov to keep themselves within one.  The Bruins are now one for two on the power play this evening.

9:14 pm - Second Period Snapshots: BOS 2, FLA 1

B'S HOT ON THE DOT: As a team, the Bruins are 20 for 34 on the faceoff dot (Florida is 14 for 34) with Patrice Bergeron leading the way, winning draws at a 70% clip (7/10). Chris Kelly has been strong as well, having won seven out of 12 puck drops (58%) heading into the third period.  Gregory Campbell (2/4) and David Krejci (4/8) are holding their own thus far winning faceoffs at a 50% rate.

B'S GO ON THE PK:
Bruins winger Reilly Smith was called for tripping at 18:24 into the middle period, putting the Bruins on the penalty kill for the first time in the evening.  However, the Panthers weren't able to create many scoring opportunities with the man advantage, as the period came to a close with 24 seconds still left on the power play to start the third period.

FLORIDA SCORES
: With 7:28 remaining in the second frame, the Florida Panthers brought themselves within one goal, when Kris Versteeg put one past Tuukka Rask.  Florida had the extra attacker on ice during the goal, as David Krejci was whistled for what likely have been called slashing. The goal marks Versteeg's second of the year with Jonathan Huberdeau and Tom Gilbert earning assists on the play.

8:32 pm - First Period Snapshots: BOS 2, FLA 0

HAMILTON CONNECTS ON A SLAPPER:
With 8:44 to go in the first period, Shawn Mattias was called for hooking putting the Bruins on the power play for the first time in the contest.  Entering the evening, the Bruins power play was tied for 25th in the NHL with a 10.5% success rate. Dougie Hamilton will help bring that percentage up as he converted on a beautiful power play goal connecting on a heavy slapper from the center blueline with Zdeno Chara screening Florida goaltender Tim Thomas in front. Earning assists on Hamilton's first goal of the year are David Krejci (5) and Zdeno Chara (2). Krejci's assist extends his point streak to three games.

PAILLE PUTS B'S UP 1-0:
Daniel Paille put the B's up 1-0, when he took a Dennis Seidenberg up ice on the wing, driving the Florida net with one Panther defender on his hip. Paille was able to shield the puck away from the lone Panther skating toe-to-toe with him into the Florida zone and with about five feet to go from the net, chipped it past Tim Thomas for his first goal of the 2013-14 season.  Earning assists on the goal are Seidenberg (2) and Matt Bartkowski (1).
