STATS YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING…

KELLY’S PENALTY SHOT MEANS MANY FIRSTS: Chris Kelly was awarded a penalty shot on Tampa Bay’s Anders Lindback, putting the Bruins on the board in the first period of Thursday’s game.  This is Kelly’s first career penalty shot as well as the first successful penalty shot by a Bruin since Brad Marchand scored on Washington’s Braden Holtby on March 5, 2013.  Kelly’s goal marks not only the first penalty shot taken by a Bruin in a season-opening game in the club’s history, but according to Elias Sports Bureau, the first time in NHL history that a team has scored their first goal of a season on a penalty shot as well.  The goal was also the Bruins third straight penalty shot goal to be scored shorthanded.

BRUINS SNAP TAMPA’S OPENING NIGHT WIN STREAK: With Thursday’s opening night victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Bruins snapped Tampa’s three-game season opener win streak, as well as extend their opening night win streak to two, having won last years matchup against the New York Rangers.

UPCOMING GAMES…

2013-14 BRUINS REGULAR SEASON: After last night’s home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Bruins will continue the regular season with games against the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche.  The B’s will play both games at TD Garden Garden, starting with a matchup against Detroit on Saturday, October 5, at 7:00 pm.  The B’s third home game will take place on Thursday, October 10, at 7:00 pm as they go head-to-head with Colorado.

UPCOMING GAMES BROADCAST SCHEDULE: Jack Edwards, Andy Brickley and Jamie Erdahl will be covering both upcoming games on NESN.  The tandem of Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will handle all radio duties on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

10/5 vs. Detroit Red Wings, 7:00 p.m. ET – NESN, NHL Network (US)
10/10 vs. Colorado Avalanche, 7:00 p.m. ET – NESN

166 AND COUNTING: Following Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Boston Bruins have sold out 166 straight regular season and playoff games. This sellout streak began more than three years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK (TOTW)

The Boston Bruins TOTW is in its fourth week of the 2013-14 season. This week’s winner is DJ Bean of WEEI.com, who skillfully used the letter B eight times (including his twitter handle) throughout the course of a Behind the B related tweet. That’s got to ‘B’ some sort of TOTW record:

@DJ_Bean: I lied. Won't be able to watch Behind the B live, so DJB will B Behind in Behind the B. No running diary. Son of a B

Here are this week’s honorable mentions, in no particular order:

‏@AmalieBenjamin: Props to Shawn Thornton for delivering leftover timbits to the media. (Specifically to @HackswithHaggs, but he's sharing.)
@ShawnHutcheon: Question for #NHLBruins fans: Does today have that Christmas Eve in October feel to it?
@TheBruinsBlog: JetBlue the new official airline of the #Bruins. Does this mean TVs on the seatbacks & blue chips in the press box?
@HackswithHaggs: I could get used to Claude Julien popping in an hour before game time & giving us scoops like Krejci being out of lineup. Merci, Claude

BRAD’S BRIGADE IS BACK:  The 2013-14 season marks an exciting new chapter for Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand’s charitable program, “Brad’s Brigade”.  Established in 2010, Marchand’s program invites children from pediatric oncology units across New England to experience a Bruins home game. Children and their families sit in the loge section and are featured on the Garden HDX.  Each family also receives a Brad’s Brigade T-Shirt, a Garden Gold Card and a goodie bag with Bruins memorabilia.  At the conclusion of the game, families are escorted down to ice level where they have the opportunity to meet Marchand and get a photo taken with him.
