B\'s GM Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has signed Dennis Seidenberg to a four-year extension

Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, October 3, that the club has signed defenseman Dennis Seidenberg to a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.  Seidenberg’s salary is worth an annual cap figure of $4,000,000. 


Seidenberg enters his 12th NHL season having skated in 581 career NHL games, registering 34 goals and 154 assists for 188 points with a plus-14 rating.  Since joining the Bruins in 2009-10, the blueliner has accumulated 18 goals and 63 assists for 81 points with a plus-45 rating in 224 games.  Last season, Seidenberg ranked sixth in the NHL in blocked shots (115) and ranked third in the league among defenseman with a plus-18 rating. 

During the Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup Championship season, Seidenberg skated in all 25 postseason contests while recording one goal and 10 assists for 11 points with 31 penalty minutes. 


Seidenberg has skated in a career 69 NHL postseason games, notching three goals and 18 assists.  The defenseman has spent 50 of those postseason games in a Bruins sweater, where he has tallied two goals and 13 assists for 15 points. 


The 6’1", 210-pound native of Villingen, Germany was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.  On March 3, 2010, the Bruins acquired Seidenberg, along with Matt Bartkowski, from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Byron Bitz, Craig Weller and Tampa Bay’s 2010 second round draft pick (Alexander Petrovic).
