STATS YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING…

SEASON-OPENING QUICK FACTS:  With opening night at TD Garden on October 3, the Bruins will have played in their fifth straight opener on home ice, which includes the 2010 opener in Prague, which was considered a home game.  In season-opening games, the Black & Gold have a 36-36-16 overall record and are 29-16-11 when those games have been played on home ice. The B’s earned a win in the 2012-13 season opener last year against the New York Rangers, 3-1, but are 2-7-1-0 in their last ten season opening contests.  Boston is 3-8-2 in their last 13 season openers following a 9-0-3 unbeaten stretch in opening games from 1987 to 1998.

BRUINS DIVISION HISTORY:  The Bruins are opening the 2013-14 campaign as a member of a new division for the first time since 1993 when they went from the Adams Division into the Northeast Division.  It marks their first division reconfiguration since 1998, when the NHL went from four divisions (Northeast and Atlantic in the East and Central and Pacific in the West) to six (Northeast, Atlantic and Southeast in the East and Central, Pacific and Northwest in the West).  In total, the Bruins have been members of five different divisions as they enter their 90th season.  There were no divisions in the seasons beginning in 1924 (six teams), 1925 (seven teams), 1938-41 (seven teams) and 1942-66 (the so-called “Original Six” era).  They played in the American Division in the seasons beginning in 1926-37 (two NHL divisions); in the East Division from 1967-73 (two divisions); in the Adams Division from 1974-92 (four divisions); in the Northeast Division from 1993-97 (four divisions) and 1998-2012 (six divisions); and commence play this season in the Atlantic Division (four divisions).

NEW DIVISION NEIGHBORS:  The 2013-14 season will mark the first time that the Bruins will have Florida and Tampa Bay in their same division as well as the first time they will play in the same division as Detroit since the 1972-73 season when both were members of the East Division.

FIGHT NIGHT VS. CAPS: A final count of five fights mixed with various other penalties throughout Monday night’s game resulted in a total of 37 penalty minutes for the Bruins, and 59 penalty minutes for the Capitals for a grand total of 96 penalty minutes assessed. B’s blueliner Kevan Miller went head-to-head with Capitals’ forward Aaron Volpatti at the start of the first period, while Washington’s Joel Rechlicz battled it out with Milan Lucic with less than five minutes before the first intermission.  The second period saw Johnny Boychuk go toe-to-toe with Rechlicz for the only fighting penalties assessed in the middle frame. Just 11 seconds into the third period, Boston’s Nick Johnson and Washington’s Michal Cajkovsky battled one another, while d-man Adam McQuaid took on the Capitals’ Dane Byers for the final fight of the evening.

165 AND COUNTING:  Coming into the 2013-14 campaign, the Boston Bruins have sold out 165 straight regular season and playoff games. This sellout streak began more than three years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK (TOTW)

This is the third week of the Boston Bruins Tweet of the Week, which also wraps up the last week of preseason games. There were a lot of candidates in the second week, but this week’s winner is Mike Loftus of the Patriot Ledger, who used a “FunA” hashtag in talking about Bruins forward Daniel Paille donning the ‘A’ on Thursday night:

@MLoftus_Ledger: #Bruins also have Paille wearing an ‘A’ tonight vs. #NHLJets. #PieA

Here are this week’s honorable mentions, in no particular order:

@TheBruinsBlog: Krejci-Iginla-Lucic ... the KILL Line ... #BruinsTalk
@GlobeKPD: Great time of year, but not really hockey season til it snows. And getting to rink feels like a mission.
‏@DanCagen: Randomness from #Bruins locker room: guys repeating lines from Kindergarten Cop. Boychuk and Lucic do a pretty good Arnold.
@GlobeFluto: Julien pumping Spooner's tires. Cites speed, playmaking skills. Improving in danger areas. In varsity mix.
@DJ_Bean: On and on, Rechlicz abandon…
@AmalieBenjamin: I am amused at the fact that guys called "Soupy" and "Spoons" could play together. Oh, the possibilities.
@ESPNJoeyMac: Some early goalie work for Rask, Svedberg, and Johnson. Sounds like a law firm.

OFF THE ICE…

PATRICE’S PALS: As a part of his continuing charitable initiative Patrice’s Pals, Bruins alternate captain Patrice Bergeron invites children from local hospitals and other organizations to experience a Bruins home game from his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags filled with Bruins memorabilia, a visit from the Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls, as well as a feature on the Garden HDX.  After the game, Patrice’s Pals are escorted to ice level and introduced to Patrice himself who signs autographs and takes pictures with his Pals. This will take place at all Boston Bruins home games during the 2013-14 season.

SAVVY’S SUITE: Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard has partnered with the Brain Injury Center at Children’s Hospital Boston, inviting children who suffer from the effects of Brain Trauma, both physically and psychologically, to attend a Bruins home game in his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags with Bruins memorabilia and a visit from Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls. Savard started the program on Thursday, January 12, 2012, and it will continue through the end of the 2013-14 Bruins season.

COMMUNITY TICKET PROGRAM:
For the entirety of the Boston Bruins 2013-14 regular season, Bruins Principal and Alternate Governor Charlie Jacobs is donating ten balcony tickets to every home game to children from charitable organizations across New England, who are invited to enjoy a Bruins home game from these donated seats.

BRAD’S BRIGADE IS BACK:  The 2013-14 season marks an exciting new chapter for Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand’s charitable program, “Brad’s Brigade”.  Established in 2010, Marchand’s program invites children from pediatric oncology units across New England to experience a Bruins home game. Children and their families sit in the loge section and are featured on the Garden HDX.  Each family also receives a Brad’s Brigade T-Shirt, a Garden Gold Card and a goodie bag with Bruins memorabilia.  At the conclusion of the game, families are escorted down to ice level where they have the opportunity to meet Marchand and get a photo taken with him.
