- Zane Gothberg has a very bright hockey future in store for him, both as a player and as a leader.

This is the goaltender’s fourth year attending the Boston Bruins Development Camp since the Bruins drafted him in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Draft.

During the first day of Development Camp for 2013, the goaltender was the one to open the gate to lead the prospects on to the ice and he was the last to leave the ice after the skate. The veteran of Camp is ready to embrace his leadership role.

“It kind of comes with the territory. Being here…for four years, you kind of have to set the tone for the guys…I’m just trying to give the guys a little extra nudge just to kind of get it going” Gothberg modestly stated. “So it’s something that you kind of take upon yourself…you just have to take it as it comes”

Wearing number 60 on his Bruins sweater, he stopped the puck with ease during the skate. Lateral transitions in the net are something he’s been watching super star goalie Tuukka Rask preform with hopes of picking up some tips for himself.

“If you look at him, he’s in his crouch and he’s very explosive from that crouch. Moving right to left, left to right, it’s pretty impressive.”

Even to be associated with the Boston Bruins as a goaltender still excites Gothberg because of the talent that has come through the Organization, such as Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask. But he humbly gave credit where credit is due.

“I talked a little bit on ice with Bob Essensa…and he said he’s been here for 10 years” Zane mentioned. “So I think a majority of that reward…and on ice performance of those guys [Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask] has to go to Bob Essensa.”

That’s a very mature thought for the 20 year old from North Dakota. With his attitude toward hockey, working hard, dedication, learning, and helping others, Zane Gothberg will be a name you won’t soon forget.
