Bruins Make Six Selections in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft

Newark, NJ The Boston Bruins made six selections today, June 30, in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

With the 60th overall pick in the second round, the Bruins selected defenseman Linus Arnesson of Djurgarden of the Swedish Junior League. The 6’1’’, 179-pound native of Stockholm, Sweden split time between Djurgarden and the Djurgarden Junior team in 2012-13. In 31 games with Djurgarden this season, the blueliner earned an assist and racked up eight penalty minutes. With the Djurgarden Junior team, Arnesson registered one goal and three assists with 22 penalty minutes in 13 appearances. The 18-year-old defenseman also skated in all six games for Sweden in the World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia, where the team placed second and earned a silver medal.

With the 90th pick overall in the third round, the Bruins selected forward Peter Cehlarik of the Lulea Junior team of the Swedish Junior League. In the 2012-13 campaign with the Lulea Junior Team, the 17-year-old forward skated in 38 games, notching 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points with 10 penalty minutes. The 5’10’’, 168-pound native of Slovakia also appeared in eight games for Lulea HF in the Swedish Elite League in 2012-13, where he accrued three goals and three assists in eight games with a +8 rating. While with Lulea, Cehlarik skated in six SEL postseason games, where the winger notched one goal.

With the 120th pick overall in the fourth round, the Bruins selected forward Ryan Fitzgerald of the Valley Junior Warriors of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. The 5’10’’, 170-pound centerman skated in 26 games with the Warriors this season, racking up 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points with 50 penalty minutes. Fitzgerald ranked second on the Warriors in goal production and fourth in points. In six playoff games, the 18-year-old posted three goals and three assists. Fitzgerald is the nephew of Bruins Assistant Director of Amateur Scouting, Scott Fitzgerald and the son of Assistant General Manager Tom Fitzgerald of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The native of North Reading, MA was named the recipient of the 2013 MIAA John Carlton Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded annually to an outstanding male and female student-athlete in an Eastern Massachusetts High School or Junior hockey.

With the 150th pick overall in the fifth round, the Bruins selected defenseman Wiley Sherman of the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut. Sherman notched four goals and six assists in 26 games with 32 penalty minutes during the 2012-13 campaign. The 18-year-old played four games with the Mid-Fairfield Blues, where recorded one assist and four penalty minutes. The 6’6’’, 196-pound D-man is a native of Greenwich, Connecticut.

With the 180th pick overall in the sixth round, the Bruins selected forward Anton Blidh. Blidh split time between the Frolunda U-18 team and Frolunda Junior team (Swedish Junior League) in the 2012-2013 season. The winger skated in 43 games for the Frolunda Junior Team, netting 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 points with 80 penalty minutes. The Sweden native skated in 58 total games for the Frolunda U-18 team from 2010-2013 where the 6’ 0”, 184-pound forward tallied 19 goals and 22 assists.

With the 210th pick overall in the seventh round, the Bruins selected forward Mitchell Dempsey of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. In 36 games with the Greyhounds, the 18-year-old winger registered one goal and four assists for five points with 17 penalty minutes. In 2011-12, the 6’3’’, 210-pound native of Cambridge, Ontario spent the season with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL, where he tallied 1-4=5 totals in 34 games with 29 penalty minutes. Dempsey also skated in five playoff games while he was with the Whalers.
