Bergeron \"On His Road to Recovery\"

NEWARK, NJ - When Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli spoke with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich during his weekly call-in this morning, he offered some positive news regarding alternate captain Patrice Bergeron, who has been out since the second period of the B's April 2 game against Ottawa with what Chiarelli had deemed as a "moderate concussion."

“I’ve met with Patrice. I've seen him, he’s been working out. He’s on his road to recovery, so it looks good,” Chiarelli told 98.5 The Sports Hub.

“He’s on his road to recovery, it looks good,” he reiterated, when asked if Bergeron being out in the sunlight and moving around was a good sign. “He’s working out and things are looking good.”

When Coach Julien was asked following morning skate at the Prudential Center (prior to facing off against New Jersey tonight) if Bergeron working out was a step in the right direction, he agreed.

"Yeah, absolutely. Anytime a guy starts doing something, it's a step in the right direction," he said.

"We never comment any more than that because as you've heard me say often, those things are encouraging one day and discouraging the next, so you just keep your fingers crossed and keep hoping that he keeps getting better."

Chiarelli last gave an update on April 3 during his post-Trade Deadline media availability.

At the time, Chiarelli had said he had talked to Patrice and that he was "in very good spirits and was out walking today."

"I don't know when you'll see him again, but he sounded really good, and we'll work together in getting him back."

Just one day following that, on April 4, Coach Julien told media that he had talked to Bergeron and he "sounded positive and sounded good."

While there is no timetable for Bergeron's recovery, any positive updates, whether from today, or throughout the past week, are good signs moving forward.
