2013 Trade Deadline Coverage

Welcome in to all of your Boston Bruins coverage for the 2013 Trade Deadline Day on Wednesday, April 3!

This Trade Deadline blog, along with the Bruins mobile app (download it here) and Twitter updates @NHLBruins will bring you all you need on the B's today. Any official updates would be posted first to our official Twitter account, so be sure to follow along.

I'll also be bringing you news and analysis throughout the day via this blog, along with video updates from General Manager Peter Chiarelli.

The Bruins most recent move saw them acquire NHL veteran and future Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr yesterday (Tuesday, April 2) from the Dallas Stars in exchange for Lane MacDermid, prospect Cody Payne (Plymouth Whalers) and a conditional second-round draft pick in this year's 2013 draft (turns into a first-round pick if the B's make the Eastern Conference Finals in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs). Read the official press release here. Read reaction from Coach and the B's on the trade following last night's game here.

When GM Peter Chiarelli was asked on Tuesday during his press conference if he was done in the market, he responded:

"It’s never done. We’ll see what happens. The thought going into tomorrow, if nothing was done today, is that, for example, if we didn’t get Jaromir [Jagr] that there would be players that would come about. There are always players like that coming up at the last minute; you don’t like to be surprised that way, but you’re prepared for it."

"I would imagine that there would be players like that tomorrow, and if there are some things that we think can help us in the proper context, then we’ll look at it."

Chiarelli said last Thursday, after the Jarome Iginla trade did not end up happening and he ended up on the Penguins, that he had been looking to add at least a forward and defenseman to the B's roster.

Even with the forward pick-up in Jagr, he is still keeping all possibilities open.

"All options," he said, when asked if his focus now shifts to adding a defenseman. "We’ve got [Kaspars] Daugavins that we’ve added, and we’ve got Jagr that we’ve added, and possibly Carl Soderberg. Again, I don’t know what’s going to happen there. So there’s some forwards that are going to be in the mix, so I’m probably leaning more towards defense. But I’m happy with our defense as it stands. I think [Matt] Bartkowski has shown that he’s giving a little different flavor to our group, and I think when we get Adam [McQuaid] back, and Johnny [Boychuk] up and running, I think we’ll be fine. I’m not out there just looking to add numbers."

Soderberg, who's name has come up more and more in the past month, especially in regards to the third line, is still on his playoff run in Sweden with Linkoping HC.

"They [Linkoping HC] won the first round, and they’re down two-one in the second round. We’ll see where that goes. Again, I’d like to think we can get him in here this year for this playoff, but we’ll see."

As for Kaspars Daugavins, the forward was finally able to secure his U.S. work visa and joined the team on Tuesday prior to their game against his former team, the Ottawa Senators (see photo proof here).

"I like him as a player, I think he’s got a lot of elements to his game that are consistent with, or compatible with, our game," said Chiarelli on Daugavins. "He’s strong, I think he’s skilled, and for whatever reason he wasn’t getting played a lot, he didn’t fit there, so that’s fine. So we’ll see where he fits. He’s still a young player, so you try to get him in and look at him, and see where it goes."

Stay tuned….
