Ready for Always Heated Rivalry

BOSTON, MA - The Bruins and Flyers meet for the first and only time at TD Garden this season, with today's matinee match-up.

The B's come in, having defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night, after snapping a brief two-game skid. Meanwhile, Philadelphia have lost two straight, including their most recent 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh and are beginning a back-to-back today.

As history shows, these two teams always have a hard-fought outing.

"We usually have a good game against them physically," Johnny Boychuk told media pregame. "It's a good team to play against because they have a lot of good players, they're kind of like the same team as us. They give us a good challenge."

"It's been going on for a while, ever since I've been here, we played them, in playoffs almost every year," added Boychuk on the rivalry. "Every time we play them it's usually a good matchup for both teams."

"First time seeing them this year, excited and we usually have pretty good games against them so I’m sure this will be no different," said Shawn Thornton.

"They’re usually built kind of the same way as us, they’re an ornery team also so there’s usually some pretty heated battles," he added. "I’m sure it’ll be another emotional affair."

Daniel Paille mirrored his teammates' mindset coming into Philly as well.

"Every time we play against Philadelphia it's an intense matchup. They're going to want to play very well, especially after they last game, it's kind of like us where they've had the lead and blew it," said the forward. "So, for them it's definitely going to be a huge test. And for us, they're a team on the rise that are playing a lot better, so it's going to be a tough challenge either way."

"For us, our main focus is to point out their strengths and be aware of their key guys out there," Paille said, when asked about the Flyers' hot power play that has scored at least one PP goal in five of their past six games (10-for-27). "They have a couple players that can really score some goals. For us, it's just going to be to watch out and be aware of it."

Coming off the win over Toronto, the B's were pleased with the better effort, but as the case throughout the start of the season, they are still working to build their game.

"Of course we can always improve," said Boychuk. "That was a good test, they've [Toronto] been playing really well."

"It was a good test for us from losing two games in a row and then winning, we want to just build on that going into tonight and hopefully win tonight and keep it going."

"I think there is still room for improvement," said Thornton. "I think that Washington game for the first two periods were really good obviously the third wasn’t very good same against Montreal. We had a better third last game but one game doesn’t fix anything so it’s a progression, I think we’re going in the right direction so that’s a positive."

Coach's Keys to Philly

"I think it’s probably playing a little better as a team, for ourselves," said Coach Julien prior to the match-up. "There’s a lot of areas that we’ve been working on. The last couple of games that we had lost, we got away from our fundamentals, so it’s a lot about us."

"We know they’re a team that’s extremely aggressive on the forecheck and they’ve got some pretty good skill if they get control in the offensive zone," he said of Philadelphia. "We have to respect that part of their game and hopefully cut down their time in our own end and play the other way."
