BostonBruins.com – With Russia and Alexander Khokhlachev idle in World Juniors play on Sunday, Team Canada – with B’s prospects Malcolm Subban, Dougie Hamilton and Anthony Camara in the lineup – faced off against arguably its next biggest rival, the United States.

With the game played at 4:30 a.m. EST, most Canadians and Americans had barely started their days as Canada earned a narrow 2-1 victory over the U.S. to remain a perfect 3-0 in the tournament.

Malcolm Subban earned Player of the Game for his best performance of the tournament. While Canada was outshot 37-32, the B’s prospect posted 36 saves, including a breakaway attempt from Team USA forward (and BC Eagle) John Gaudreau in the first period and a barrage of shots during a Griffin Reinhart double-minor for high-sticking early in the middle frame.

“It was really a character win in a lot of ways,” Canadian head coach Steve Spott said following the game to media at the tournament. “The moral of the story tonight is our depth players, our penalty killers, you know obviously Malcolm Subban.

“I'm really proud of him. It's a big moment for Malcolm. He stood up tall to the task tonight.”

Canada logged a 2-0 lead in the first period with a goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and a Ryan Strome tally that Black & Gold prospect Anthony Camara helped set up. The U.S. scored midway through the third on the power play, but Subban and Canada held on for the win.

Next up, Canada faces host Russia (2-0-1) on New Year’s Eve at 9:00 AM EST (NHL Network, TSN) for first place in Pool B, with the winner receiving an important bye to the semifinal, and the loser playing in a quarterfinal game.
