World Juniors Update: Dec. 26
B's prospects earned a win, a goal and two assists
BostonBruins.com -- It was a fine first showing for the Boston Bruins prospects at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia.
| Subban |
Malcolm Subban, Dougie Hamilton and Anthony Camara made big contributions to Team Canada's 9-3 win over Germany and a goal from Alexander Khokhlachev's Russian squad helped stop the Slovaks 3-2.
Subban, the B's top draft pick in 2012 (1st Round, 24th Overall) stopped 25 of 28 German shots and was bolstered by a nine-goal onslaught from his Team Canada teammates.
The goaltender's fellow B's draftees, Hamilton and Camara, both notched assists for the Canadians who will next play Slovakia on December 28th.
After the game, Canadian Head Coach Steve Spott indicated that fans can expect to see a lot of Subban for the remainder of the tournament.
"Our plan is to run with Malcolm," Spott told the Canadian Press.
Khokhlachev scored Russia's second goal against the Slovaks as the home team endured a two-goal comeback before taking the game in overtime.
Russia next plays Team USA on the 28th - the second contest for both squads.
After a practice on Wednesday, the Americans take on Germany in their opener tomorrow (Dec. 27th), but B's blueliner Matt Grzelcyk's awaits a roster decision by Team USA to see if he will see any time on the blueline during the tournament.
