BOSTON, MA -- For the fifth consecutive year, the Bruins helped make Thanksgiving a little more special for those who rely on Boston's community shelters.

On Wednesday and Thursday, TD Garden President Amy Latimer, members of the B's staff, the Boston Bruins Ice Girls, and Blades the Bruins mascot continued the tradition as they delivered 400 pies from Mike’s Pastry and 400 boxes of Entenmann’s cookies to 15 facilities - including the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, St. Francis House, and the Pine Street Inn.

The Boston Bruins Foundation and Garden Neighborhood Charities funded the purchase of the pies from Mike’s Pastry in Boston’s North End, and Entenmann’s donated the boxes of cookies.

"No matter what age, what fan you are…I think just waking up in the morning and seeing Blades come in with some pies is a good way to start the day," said Latimer.

The TD Garden president went on to say how wonderful it is to have several well known organizations from the Greater Boston community join together to help make a festive Thanksgiving meal possible for many who might not otherwise be able to enjoy the holiday tradition.

"It’s nice to have good local partners because they always believe in giving back to the community," she said.

Anyone who has been to Mike’s Pastry knows that there is usually a long line out the door, so having pies delivered from this famous North End bakery -- as well as a New England staple like Entenmann's cookies -- was a special treat.

"I think that people receive the Mike’s boxes and they know it’s a good quality pie and [the same goes for] Entenmann’s cookies," said Latimer.

"Nobody wants me baking these,” she added with a laugh. "This is much better for everybody today."

Over the five years of this tradition, Bruins donations now total more than $8,000 worth of Thanksgiving food items, including 1,400 pies, 400 boxes of cookies and 160 turkeys.

"A big part of the Bruins organization is giving back," said Assistant Equipment Manager Matt Falconer. "To be a part of that is special, and I’m glad to be out here today."

And the tradition of giving back to the community will continue.

"I think it’s critical," said Latimer. "And unfortunately I think the need continues to grow, so we’ll continue to do this every year and our support and if there’s more need we’ll continue to meet that need."
