BOSTON, MA — The TD Garden, Boston Bruins Foundation and Black & Gold's Community Relations department have always worked with programs to benefit children in the New England area.

On Thursday evening, members of the Bruins staff assisted Birthday Wishes prepare for one of the local non-profit group's special events designed to gather funds to plan birthday parties for children who would otherwise have no special day.

The B's staff members prepared packages for “Luminary Night,” described by the group’s Executive Director Lisa Vasiloff as "a way to honor the children in the homeless shelters" on their birthdays.

“We have 1,000 kits that we need to put together,” said Vasiloff, who estimated the Black & Gold employees assembled 250 kits. "These guys are getting the first batch done for us."

The third annual Luminary Night takes place December 2 and sales of the kits drives the group's party planning.

“We go in, and throw birthday parties at all the shelters we work with -- once a month -- or all the kids that have birthdays in that month,” Vasiloff said of her organization's 50-60 monthly celebrations. “Every child gets birthday gifts, their names on the birthday cake, with singing and games and crafts.”

It is Birthday Wishes’ dedication to youth outreach that makes it a perfect fit for the TD Garden and Bruins.

"We really enjoyed ourselves tonight, had a great time coming together as a group to help out such a great organization as Birthday Wishes," said Mike Dargin, Manager of Youth Hockey Development, who helped organize the event at the Garden.

"We enjoy being involved in the community and Birthday Wishes is a wonderful cause to partner with."
