BOSTON, MA — The Boston Bruins were saddened to hear of the passing of William Ezinicki. He was 88.

Ezinicki
Ezinicki, who established a reputation in hockey for being one of the hardest hitters in the league, played for the Boston Bruins during the 1950-51 and 1951-52 seasons, compiling a 21-24-45 line in 81 games in Black & Gold. Ezinicki was also well known for his proficiency on the golf course, where he earned victories at the Massachusetts Open, Rhode Island Open, New Hampshire Open and Maine Open and was formally the head golf pro at The International.

Ezinicki got his NHL start in 1946-47 with the Toronto Maple Leafs after playing with the Oshawa Generals of the OHA, and the Pittsburgh Hornets of the AHL. A winger, the man called "Wild Bill" was a part of three consecutive Stanley Cup champions (1947, 1948, 1949) and played in the 1947 & 1948 All-Star Games.

A native of Winnipeg, Ezinicki settled in Bolton after he closed out his NHL career with the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks (WHL), Ottawa Senators (QHL), and Sudbury Wolves (NOHA) before hanging up his skates after the 1956-57 season.

A prolific golfer, Ezinicki took the 1956 and 1958 New England PGA championships and received the Skip Wogan Award for New England PGA player of the year in 1958, 1960 and 1964.

Ezinicki is a member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame, the Toronto Maple Leafs Hall of Fame, the New England PGA Hall of Game and the Massachusetts Golf Association Hall of Fame.

Survived by friends and family in Massachusetts, British Columbia and Manitoba, Ezinicki's exploits on and off the ice will always be remembered by New England's hockey and golf fans.
