4th Annual Equipment Sale a Hit with Fans
Dozens of Bruins fans braved the cold temperatures in line outside of Pure Hockey in Medford on Saturday to buy gear previously worn by their favorite Bruins players during the team\u2019s 4th Annual Equipment Sale. A portion of the profits made during it will go to the Boston Bruins Foundation.

MEDFORD, MA - Dozens of Bruins fans braved the cold temperatures in line outside of Pure Hockey in Medford on Saturday to buy gear previously worn by their favorite Bruins players during the team’s 4th Annual Equipment Sale. A portion of the profits made during it will go to the Boston Bruins Foundation.

Some fans even arrived as early as 7:30 p.m. the night before the sale to get a prime spot in line. That first spot was occupied by Bency, who had traveled all the way from Montreal to Boston, and this was not the first time he has made the trek for it.

“This is my third Bruins equipment sale, so ever since I’ve heard about it I’ve come down to buy gear,” he said.

Though not quite as early as Bency, Kim of Hanover, NH arrived at 2:30 a.m. to boost her personal collection of memorabilia. She had an array of items to choose from, including game- or practice-used gloves, jerseys, helmets, skates and sticks.

“I’m just going to see what’s here, but I really have my eye on getting a couple of sticks today,” she said.

Sean from Lexington said that he heard about the sale a few days prior and had decided to bring his five-year-old son Aidan. While there, he picked up a practice jersey and some game-used socks, and his son even got a tour of the gear from members of the Bruins equipment staff.

Aidan has been playing hockey for about a year and says that he wants to be a member of the Bruins when he grows up. His love of hockey comes from watching Bruins games together with his dad.

“It was the one sport that he really wanted to play,” Sean said. “I would watch the games with him and we waited until he was able to play and signed him right up.”

This year’s equipment sale marked the second time that Pure Hockey has helped host it at a store location, and VP of Marketing and E-Commerce Jeff Copetas was happy to continue the relationship.

“It is part of a partnership that we have with the Bruins,” he said. “It’s a really good partnership, lots of people are here so it’s great.”

Boston Bruins equipment manager Keith Robinson and assistant equipment manager Matt Falconer got a chance to move away from their usual behind-the-scenes roles and assisted fans with the gear.

“A lot of the fans had specific questions on who wore what equipment and we can verify some of that for them,” said Robinson.

Falconer added that it was great to see how excited the fans were to snag game-used items and gear that came right from the B’s locker room.

“To us, at the end of the day, it’s hockey gear, but people don’t have the access to it every day,” he said. “It’s good to offer that to the fans and obviously it goes to the Foundation, which is good to support as well.”

Fans like Charlene of Sturbridge left with plenty of memorabilia. In her case, she left with a practice jersey to include in her fledgling collection and hopes to return next year, though she admitted she would “maybe get here a little bit earlier.”

“I’m definitely doing this in the future, it’s definitely an experience.”
