BostonBruins.com — Harvard came within 15 minutes of an ECAC championship and NCAA tournament berth last season, but the Crimson have not made the tournament since 2006, or won a Beanpot Tournament since 1993. However, Bruins prospect Alex Fallstrom and his Harvard teammates are hoping to soon end the team’s trophy drought when the puck drops for their season in just over a month.

“From a team perspective, last year, we were so close,” said Fallstrom. “We were one game away from the NCAA tournament, and I just hope this year, we’re going to build off what we had.

“But I think what we had last year was just the beginning and I think it could be really great.”

Last season, Harvard made it to the ECAC finals before losing to Union, a result that the Bruins prospect said he hopes to soon improve upon.

Fallstrom said when the team came so close to winning the ECAC’s, the thought of hoisting the championship trophy became more realistic, and he and the Crimson hope to be right back there and competing for other championships come this season.

“It just came to you that you could do this, that we were a good enough team to do this,” recalled Fallstrom of the team’s run to the ECAC finals. “I feel like I’m bringing that feeling into this season. I definitely think it’s a possibility, and it’s something I really want. It’s something you’ve been dreaming over ever since you came to Harvard—to play in the national tournament, to win the ECAC tournament, and to win the Beanpot Tournament.

“Those have all been goals: This is what I want to win, and this is what I want to accomplish when I got to Harvard. I feel like it’s going to be a really exciting year,” he said.

Still, with a full season left to play at Harvard, which opens up Oct. 27 versus Bentley at the Bright Center in Cambridge, Fallstrom will have his final hoorah in a crimson sweater before donning the black and gold.

“It’s a little bittersweet,” said the senior. “Obviously, I’m really excited about this year. I just want to make the most out of it.

“It’s definitely going to be tough to leave, but I feel like I’m just entering a new chapter in my life and I’m really excited about that.”
