BostonBruins.com – The Boston Bruins Foundation’s Pan-Mass bike team is ready to embark on a weekend- long expedition to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Tomorrow’s race will mark the seventh year in what has become an annual staple in the Bruins offseason.

The foundation’s executive director, Bob Sweeney, admits to being on the injured reserve for this race, but proudly spoke of the milestone the Bruins Foundation recently reached.

“We’ve raised over a million dollars for Dana-Farber to help kids fight cancer, which is the most important goal of all.”

After countless hours of training in their downtime and a Boston Harbor Cruise to support the event, the B’s team is finally shifting gears to the actual race, which will begin at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow from Sturbridge to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Bourne.

“It’s an exciting time for everyone that’s riding,” Sweeney said. “We’ll be loading the busses soon, getting ready to go up to Sturbridge and before you know it wakeup call will be a little after 4:00-4:30 [a.m.]”

So by the time the rest of the world wakes up tomorrow, the hard-working organization that has spokes around its B will already have their noses to the grindstone from 5:30 a.m. onward, pedaling hard for a great cause.

“To be a small part of a ride that raises 30 million dollars every year is a great feeling,” Sweeney concluded.
