McQuaid Ready for Next Season
54 is completely cleared and gearing up for the start of the season
BostonBruins.com – The Bruins locker room is comprised of players from all over the world. So it should come as no surprise that bostonbruinsTV was able to catch up with Prince Edward Island native, Adam McQuaid, in a wet and windy Charlottetown – the largest city in the smallest province of Canada, and the birthplace of the Confederation.
It should also come as no surprise that the blueliner is hard at work at the track, in the weight room and on the ice – gradually raising the amount of intense workouts to prepare for camp.
“The end of August, it will be a regular day,” McQuaid said of his summer regime. “Getting out to the track a couple times a week and then the gym and then getting on the ice.”
While the average person would be proud to get off the couch and make it to the track or gym, it’s just the beginning of the day for the B’s defenseman.
“By the end of it when it’s time to go on the ice you’re looking forward to that part of the day,” the 25-year-old said.
Rather than dread the conditioning as the workouts grow closer and more intense, McQuaid’s eager for it.
“I’m looking forward to going to the gym and training and getting set up and ready to go for next season,” McQuaid said.
On the way to those workouts, the B's blueliner often walks past a framed picture of himself holding the Stanley Cup, in the entrance of his local fitness center, in the quiet town where his NHL journey began.
“People that are from here take pride in being from here and representing ourselves well,” the defenseman added.
With GM Peter Chiarelli recently announcing McQuaid as “completely cleared,” for next season, he’ll have the chance to continue representing his corner of the world on the ice at TD Garden.
Aside from his hard training, the long offseason has given players like McQuaid time to rest – which isn’t something the B’s have had much of in the last two calendar years.
“I took a little bit of time off and got rejuvenated,” McQuaid said.
With adequate time to revitalize, McQuaid is one of the many Bruins looking forward to a big season after hibernation.
“I wake up every morning looking forward to getting things going and I’m definitely feeling really good and looking forward to hopefully a really healthy and productive season next year,” the Charlottetown native said.
For now, the islander looks forward to joining his tribe back in Boston and seeing his hard work pay off in camp.
“They can be long days but it’s worth it when you come to camp and you’re ready to go."
