Marchand Back to His Roots
BostonBruins.com - Less than a year ago, Brad Marchand was eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch out of the Stanley Cup.
When Bruins Beat checked in with him this summer in Canada, his appetite for winning hadn’t changed, especially with his favorite bowl in Hollywood.
"We start at nine," Marchand said of his daily morning session at the gym and bostonbruinsTV's request to film it. "Be there early."
"And if we start at nine, he’s here at nine ready to go," his trainer J.P. MacCallum told BBTV at Marchand's gym in Nova Scotia.
The coastal city of Halifax is Marchand’s flagship retreat during the offseason to catch up with family.
When the Bruins won the Cup last summer he knew he had to bring it back to the place he grew up.
"We just knew that after winning the Cup it was definitely going to have to be a priority to share it as much as we could with the city," the B’s forward said.
But beyond the Cup, for Marchand, the cities of Boston and Halifax always share a similar feeling.
"It’s on the water, the people are great," the 24-year-old said. "But again it is smaller [there’s] not as much going on.
"I think that’s what I love about Boston so much, is that I can compare it to home."
While the Marchand family wouldn’t have minded the extended company of Lord Stanley in their home this summer, the longer offseason has helped Brad to recuperate before the 2012-13 season.
But that doesn’t mean hockey isn’t in the forefront of his mind.
As in Boston, Marchand is consistently reminded of Stanley Cup memories as he travels through Halifax.
"It is still very fresh in my mind," said No. 63. "It comes up every time we go by places where we had the Cup, the parade route or the hotel where we did our speeches and stuff.
"It definitely brings back great memories.”
As he gears up for another season, the B’s forward is balancing his time between family and fitness as he gets set for September.
“You just have to do your job," he said. "At the same time, all that other free time goes to family and friends.”
