The Pailles Pay a Visit to Franciscan

BRIGHTON, MA – While the offseason may be a little longer than the Boston Bruins had hoped, it has given the players a chance to spend even more time giving back to their loyal fans.

One such player is forward Daniel Paille, who recently paid a visit with his wife and certified yoga instructor, Dana, to the Franciscan Hospital for Children.

"The Bruins are so well known here [at this hospital]," said Dan, who spent the morning doing yoga with students at the Kennedy Day School at the hospital. "It is really something good."

Yoga is a new program at the school, which according to the Supervisor for Physical Therapy at the school, Diana Klar, keeps up the students' range of motion.

"We’ve always had a little bit [of yoga] within physical therapy," said Klar. "But this program is kind of new to our school in that we’ve been starting to implement it across the entire school here."

Paille’s wife helped lead the instruction in a room decked in Bruins wall decals. Even though this class was only a one-time deal, Dana hopes to make it more frequent.

"I would like to eventually come in and teach the kids [regularly]," she said. "I think they would really benefit from it, and they’ll probably teach me stuff, too."

While the therapeutic yoga and "downward dogs" might have been what brought the Pailles to the Franciscan Hospital this time, it was a different kind of dog that first attracted them to this institution three years ago.

"One of the parts that Franciscan helped with was pet therapy and pet therapy training," said Dan. "My wife came here and we had our dog, he does pet therapy - we can come to the hospitals with him and enjoy it with the kids."

It’s clear that volunteering within the community is an integral part of the Bruins Organization, as they have several events around the city throughout the summer.

"I don’t think you can do enough," said the B's winger. "You want to try to do as much as you can, get yourself out there and be a part of the community."

So is yoga a new offseason workout for Paille?

"Well, I hear it's quite good for you," he said with a laugh. "This is probably the first time I've done yoga.

"I told [Dana] that the Bruins set up yoga with the Franciscan Hospital and she was excited and I jumped for it, and it’s the only way she’d get me [to do yoga]."

Dan may not be a yogi just yet, but after recently inking a three-year contract extension, he and his wife are excited to have the opportunity for three more years of giving back to the Boston community.

"We've been volunteering since we came to Boston," said Dana. "[We’re] very familiar with the hospital, and we love it.

"We love the kids, the staff, everyone."
