Simpson\'s Team Effort
It\u2019s all about teamwork for Wayne Simpson. That team spirit started years ago, when he got his start in the hockey rink. \u201CI was living in Georgia actually,\u201D said Simpson just minutes after the second practice of the day at development camp, \u201CIt\u2019s hard to find rinks down there but my parents were kind enough to drive me a ways every time I went to skate\u2026my mom supported all the way\u2026It\u2019s kind of a full family thing.\u201D

WILMINGTON, MA – It’s all about teamwork for Wayne Simpson, an invitee to Boston Bruins Development Camp 2012.

That team spirit started years ago, when he got his start in a southern hockey rink.

“I was living in Georgia actually,” said Simpson just minutes after the second practice of the day on Day 2. “It’s hard to find rinks down there but my parents were kind enough to drive me a ways every time I went to skate…my mom supported all the way.

"It’s kind of a full family thing.”

Even now, at his first year at the Bruins development camp, the forward is focused on building his support system not just off the ice, but on it as well.

“You pick up things along the way,” said Simpson. “You know, they help you out, some of the guys that have been here for two, three years. So [you] learn stuff on and off the ice kind of what pro hockey’s about.”

And Simpson is certainly learning. Just two days into camp, he has already locked in on what he wants to improve on this summer.

“One of the things is conditioning,” Simpson said, “I don’t want to be getting tired next year.

“Also I’m looking to improve on my shot, you know all aspects of it, hitting the net, capitalizing on scoring opportunities and getting it off quicker.”

Back at Union College, Simpson wrapped up a great year helping his team to its first-ever Frozen Four in 2012.

“It was awesome…we got a good run at the end of the season and we wanted to go all the way,” he said, “I think over the past years we’ve been taking steps further every time so looking back, it’s a good experience but we want to build off of it.”

He’ll return to Union in the fall, but not without the lasting impression of his time with the B’s camp.

“This is my first camp so I didn’t really know what to expect,” said Simpson, “I’m kind of going along with it and there’s been a few surprises along the way.

"It’s been fun," he added. "It’s been a good experience.”
