An Interesting Situation...
I\'m not gonna lie. As much as Bruins fans love to hate P.K. Subban, I love interviewing him. In fact, given the sincere respect he displays both for the city of Boston and the rivalry between the Bruins and the Canadiens (as well as his \"exuberant\" play, as GM Peter Chiarelli described put it), Subban might be my favorite interview subject not wearing Black & Gold. So, when the TV camera\'s turned suddenly to Malcolm Subban, those of us at BostonBruins.com and bostonbruinsTV.com didn\'t mind -- not one bit.

PITTSBURGH -- I'm not gonna lie. As much as Bruins fans love to hate P.K. Subban, I love interviewing him.

In fact, given the sincere respect he displays both for the city of Boston and the rivalry between the Bruins and the Canadiens (as well as his "exuberant" play, as GM Peter Chiarelli described it), Subban might be my favorite interview subject not wearing Black & Gold.

So when the TV camera's turned suddenly to Malcolm Subban, those of us at BostonBruins.com and bostonbruinsTV.com didn't mind at all -- no, not one bit.

And later, when our camera's and recorders were rolling, neither Subban brother disappointed our readers or viewers.

"Yeah, I mean I'm in the Boston Bruins suite right now," said P.K. Subban after the B's selected his little brother Malcolm 24th in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. "It's a different feeling, but you know what, hopefully it's the start of a long and great career for my younger brother.

"He's worked extremely hard to get to this point and to be honest with you there are a handful of organizations that are elite in the NHL and this is one of them."

Despite their struggles this season, the storied history of Montreal -- the city's hockey pedigree, 24 Stanley Cups and the classic rivalries with Toronto and Boston -- certainly puts the Canadiens on that list as well, and the Black & Gold's Round 1 pick on Friday might just have elevated their ancient beef with the bleu, blanc et rouge to a different level.

In any case, the brotherly rivalry between P.K. and Malcolm could certainly make holidays a little interesting around the Subbans' house. Malcolm joked that there could be a lot of gag gifts changing hands, but from the sound of it P.K. isn't going to let Malcolm overlook how important a gift the younger brother has received from Boston.

Malcolm Subban

"He's extremely privileged and happy to part of the Boston Bruins organization right now," said the elder Subban.

"He'll find out," added P.K. when he was asked if he had told Malcolm about the atmosphere in the TD Garden. "I mean it's an Original Six team, so when you are playing for one of those teams or against one of those teams - you know.

"It's a privilege," repeated P.K.

And the Subban brothers' accomplishments are shared and understood by the entire family.

"You know, for my parents right now to have two boys playing in the national league for the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins - it's a unique situation," said P.K. "But for Malcolm, I know that he's close to being [in the NHL] and I'm close to playing against him.

"It's going to be an interesting situation."

And that, my friends, is the understatement of the year.
