Marchand Looking Forward to Next Season
BostonBruins.com – For any team, a first-round playoff loss is tough to take. For the reigning Stanley Cup champions it's even harder.

Following the team's elimination, Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand said something was missing this time around.

Marchand
"Last year we kept going after teams and putting pressure on them," he said. "You know we were so physical. It just seems like we had an extra gear in there that we didn't this year."

However, the Bruins left it all on the ice in their seven-game series against the Washington Capitals.

"I think we had a good seed, and we battled hard. We gave ourselves a very good opportunity to win, but sometimes you get the bounce sometimes you don't," Marchand said.

The series was low scoring on both sides, and the B's struggled to penetrate Washington's defense.

"You've got to give them credit," Marchand said. "They played a very good system, and really cracked down defensively."

Losing forward Nathan Horton and defenseman Adam McQuaid to injuries also hurt the team's chances in the playoffs.

"That's a couple key guys out of the lineup," Marchand said. "But we've got a great team, we've got a great group of guys here. Given another opportunity I definitely think we could make a good run."

Despite the early elimination, he is optimistic about the B's chances next season.

"It didn't go in our favor, but we had a great year," Marchand said. "We ought to be proud of what we did and just look forward to next year."
