Even More Respected
BOSTON, MA -- Just when you thought there was nothing new to be said about B's alternate captain Patrice Bergeron, who was named a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Trophy Monday morning, he comes up with another performance that brings new superlatives to descriptions of the Boston center.

"He competed hard and he's not taking face offs because he's not 100% to take face offs," said B's Head Coach Claude Julien after his club's 4-3 OT win over Washington. "But he's good enough to play through this whole game and play us a real solid game."

Julien's statements ring especially true in the wake of the Bruins victory on Sunday, a game in which Bergeron assisted on the B's first goal by rich Peverley, played almost 20 minutes, threw two hits, had two takeaways, blocked a shot and won the key faceoff -- the only draw he took all game -- with short time left in a 3-3 game in the third.

But then, that's what Bruins fans have come to expect from the quiet man from Quebec, who shied away from the spotlight when asked if it were his call to take that pivotal faceoff.

"Well, I kind of had to," said Bergeron. "It was on that side and [Rich Peverley] wasn't on the ice.

"So yeah, I made the call."

That's simply no shock to anyone, especially his head coach.

"It speaks volumes with this guy," said Julien of his center's Game 6. "Anytime we talk about this player there's always something new that comes up but that makes him an even greater player.

"He's extremely respected in the room," added Julien. "Somehow he became even more today."
