The Focus Remains on Game 4

Suspensions or distractions won't deter the B's

The Focus Remains on Game 4
ARLINGTON, VA -- B's Head Coach Claude Julien said that there's nothing to the notion, put forward earlier today by Capitals Head Coach Dale Hunter, that the B's have been targeting Nicklas Backstrom's head.

Peverley
"It doesn’t make sense really," said Julien during his post-practice media availability. "I don’t know any coach that would tell his team to go after somebody’s head.

"It speaks for itself, so that’s all I’m going to say about that."

But pressed as to whether his players were looking to hit Backstrom high, and were acting independently of their coach's orders, Julien did not equivocate.

"No it’s ludicrous, it’s ridiculous," said Julien.  "There’s always going to be emotions in games and there’s things that are happening.

"We need to win a game and we need to win the series and that’s where our focus is on and that’s what it should be."

In the nearby visitors locker room, forward Rich Peverley -- the victim of Backstrom's own head high cross check -- had very little to say about the Capitals forward, who was suspended on Tuesday.

"The league dealt with it," said Peverley, who was asked if he were satisfied with the punishment. "It doesn’t matter what I think."

However, Peverley didn't think his own club would change the way they play.

"No, it’s not going to change the way we play at all," said Peverley. "They’re still a great team and they’re playing well.

"We’ve still got to try to go into the game and play it the way we play."

Julien doesn't see the suspension lessening the Caps ability to give them a game on Thursday night.

"We, as I told our players, we just got to focus on what we have to do to win a series here and win a game," said Julien. "They're still a very, very good team, with or without [Backstrom] in the lineup.

"I think even Dale [Hunter] mentioned they won some games without him, beaten us without him in the lineup.  So, that’s not going to be an issue.

"Our issue is going to be, again, about us trying to get better as the series moves on."

And Peverley expects the high-intensity, physical play that's characterized the first three games of the series to continue into the weekend.

"We’re a physical team," said Peverley. "A lot of the guys on this team play physical and it’s the playoffs, too, it’s just the way it’s going to be going forward."
