Rolston: We stuck with it...

BOSTON, MA -- Brian Rolston has seen everything, but even the veteran forward was wearing a wide grin after the B's 1-0 overtime win in Game 1 of Boston's first round playoff series versus Washington.

"We had a lot of opportunities, obviously a lot of power plays tonight," said Rolston, who assisted on Chris Kelly's game-winner just 1:18 into OT. "Their goaltender [Braden Holtby] played well, and they played a pretty stingy game through the neutral zone.

"We stuck with it...and got that one at the end."

In the first two periods it looked as if one goal might open the floodgates for the Bruins, who out-shot the Caps 26-7 in the first 40 minutes.

"We had a couple of good opportunities," said Rolston. "I think they did a good job blocking.

"In the playoffs...everybody’s blocking shots. And we just had to find a way to get pucks [to the net], that’s a huge thing.

"And then, off that you’ll have seams off that, but we need to get pucks to the net for sure," he said.

Thankfully, Boston goaltender Tim Thomas was up to that shot blocking task as well.

"You know Tim is what he is," said Rolston. "There’s a reason he won the Conn Smythe last year and he was great for us tonight.

"Obviously you need good goaltending in the playoffs and he was phenomenal tonight."

And Thomas' final save on Washington center Marcus Johansson set up Kelly's game winner when B's defenseman Joe Corvo gathered the rebound and fed Rolston.

"I just knew I had time, but Benny was coming, flying through and that was my only play absolutely," said Rolston. "I actually was taking the wall way just in case it missed the net, but it was a pretty good feeling to see Kells come around the net with his arms in the air."

But Rolston was quick to turn the page on Game 1.

"It was a good win," he said. "Now we need to move forward."
