Trio of Young Players Excited for Experience – After the Bruins morning skate at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, Head Coach Claude Julien confirmed that Tim Thomas, Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron and Johnny Boychuk will not join the team for their trip to Ottawa this afternoon.

That opens the door for Bruins forward Lane MacDermid and goaltender Anton Khudobin to possibly get some ice time against the Senators tomorrow – an experience both are eagerly excited about.

“I got the call late last night after the game, so another great surprise for me to get a call,” MacDermid said. “Coming into the playoffs, the team wants to play well and have a sort of attitude going into it so I’d like to be part of that and help them out that way.”

MacDermid, who has four goals and 11 assists with the P-Bruins this season, will make his sixth appearance for the Black & Gold this season, assuming he plays Thursday.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound defenseman was called up March 3 and played five games, highlighted by a heavyweight-boxing match with Rangers forward Michael Rupp in his NHL debut March 4.

“[The Bruins] gave me a great opportunity before and they called me up again so I’d like to show them I’m worthy to be a part of this team, and help the team out and be an asset out there and just try to do my best,” MacDermid said.

“I know my role, it’s more of a simple role and being a physical asset on the team so I think that’s what I should bring.”

For Khudobin, the scenario is a little different as he awaits his first professional start with the Boston Bruins.

The Providence goaltender, who was recalled April 2, posted a 21-19-3 record with the P-Bruins and plans to keep it simple if, or when he gets on the ice with Boston.

“All [goalies] need to do is stop pucks,” Khudobin said. “The more you stop them, the less they’re going to score so that’s the one way. If you allowed some goals, [I] just figure out how I can stop that puck the next time.”

And lastly, it is also possible that defenseman Torey Krug, who played in his NHL debut against the Penguins Tuesday, plays Thursday.

With Chara and Boychuk staying home for the trip the Bruins will be down to seven defensemen, and Adam Mcquaid missed his third-straight game Tuesday as the laceration above his eye continued to heal.

“He gets the experience to play at this level, and to play at this level right now is pretty good,” Julien said of Krug after Tuesday’s game. “And we get to see him not just fresh into training camp, but also having played a full season at [MSU] and coming in, in the best of shape he can be in right now.

"So we’re seeing him at his best, and we’re seeing some of the hockey at its best, so it’s a great way to evaluate a player right now.”

Bruins veteran forward Brian Rolston took a minute after practice to reflect on his own professional debut, and said he was happy to have the three youngsters on board.

“Dermie [MacDermid] came in against the Rangers, really played well for us and those guys definitely give you energy,” Rolston said. “It’s great to have that depth, those guys can step up and play right away. They’re a big part of our team.

“The best advice you can give is just play, go out there and have fun and play your game. Nothing changes in the NHL, you’ve been playing the same game your whole life so just go and have fun.”
