Seguin Named NESN's 7th Player

Seguin Named NESN\'s 7th Player
BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Bruins and NESN announced today that Bruins forward Tyler Seguin was named the winner of NESN’s Seventh Player Award presented by Mazda. Voted on by Bruins fans online at NESN.com, NESN’s Seventh Player Award is an annual award presented to the Bruin who went above and beyond the call of duty and exceeded the expectations of Bruins fans during the 2011-12 season.

This year, in his second full season with the Bruins, the 20-year-old Seguin leads the team in points with 65 and is tied for the team lead in goals with 27. Seguin also has a +32 rating which ranks third overall in the NHL, behind teammates Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara. He recorded his first career hat trick on November 5, 2011 in Toronto and was named to the NHL All-Star Game for the first time in his career in January.

Seguin’s offensive totals from this year are nearly triple his output from his rookie year when he registered 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in 74 games during the 2010-11 season.

The Brampton, ON native was originally drafted by the Bruins in the first round (2nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

In addition to the Seventh Player Award trophy, Seguin will receive $5,000 to donate to the charity of his choice.  

Past recipients include Brad Marchand (2011), Tuukka Rask (2010), David Krejci (2009) and Milan Lucic (2008).  

NESN’s voice of the Boston Bruins Jack Edwards hosted an on-ice pre-game ceremony before the Bruins/Penguins game on April 3, 2012. Edwards was joined on the ice by Brian Bogardus, District Sales Manager for the Northeast Region for Mazda and Bruins fan Ashley Friend who was randomly selected as NESN’s 7th Player Award Sweepstakes winner. Ashley will drive home as the proud owner of a brand new 2013 Mazda CX-5 courtesy of Mazda.
