Story Lines Abound vs. Penguins
BOSTON, MA -- The regular season might nearly be over, but there's still plenty of storylines left as the B's look to round out the the last three games of the 2011-12 campaign and prepare to defend their 2011 Stanley Cup championship.

Tim Thomas has taken the brunt of the B's workload in goal, and would certainly benefit from having some time away from the ice. So, with the addition of Anton Khudobin to Marty Turco, the B's backup tandem will take the ice for warmups tonight.

"Yeah, Tim won’t be playing tonight," said Julien. "We’re going to give him some rest – he’s done a great job for us down the stretch and this is an opportunity to give him some rest.

"But at the same time, we’re going to continue to work with him so he’s fine-tuned for the playoffs."

Julien said that he had "a pretty good idea" about his goaltending rotation for this week's games, but declinded to outline the plan beyond confirming that Turco, the first goaltender off after Bruins morning skate, would be in goal on Tuesday night.

"We’re not shutting him down," said Julien of Thomas. "The one thing I can tell you is we’re not shutting him down for the rest of the regular season.

"You need to play to be sharp, but the fact that you don’t play games or even dress sometimes certainly gives you a break."

So, it seems reasonable to believe that Khudobin should see time before the puck drops on the playoffs.

"We got to see where [injured goaltender] Tuukka [Rask] is and if Tuukka’s not ready, then Anton’s got to be ready because Marty can’t play in the playoffs," said Julien. That’s clear to us, and that’s clear to [Khudobin] and the way Tuukka’s going right now, he’s heading in the right direction.

Where are we going to be in a week and a half? Right now, I really don’t know."

Like Thomas, injured defenseman Adam McQuaid will also benefit from a little rest, too, and Julien indicated that rookie defenseman Torey Krug, who last played in Michigan State's 3-1 loss to Union in the first round of the NCAA Ice Hockey Tournament on March 23, will play tonight versus the Penguins.

"You look at him, he’s pretty solid and to me he has a lot of qualities we’ve been looking for so it’s an opportunity for him to play and to enjoy it and for us to see what he’s all about," said Julien. "It will be a great experience for him, and it will be good for us to evaluate him as well to see how far he is in his progression to be an NHL player."

Meanwhile, forward Jordan Caron will also miss tonight's game, but presumably will not join McQuaid and Thomas in the press box.

"He’s a little under the weather," said Julien of Caron. "It’s just a flu bug or virus, so he should be back tomorrow.

"He was just told to stay away from the team and that’s as simple as that. And the reason there again is where we are in the schedule."

But Julien also said that Gregory Campbell, who missed the B's win over the New York Rangers with a lower-body injury will return to the lineup.
