Prospect Report: Prospects Sign with B\'s
BostonBruins.com – After a decorated, four-year career at Northern Michigan University, Justin Florek has carried his success at the collegiate level into the American Hockey League.

A full version of the prospect report can be found here.
In his first six games with the Providence Bruins, Florek has tallied two goals and two assists – all of which he scored in his first game with the club on March 23 to propel his team to a 5-2 victory over the Manchester Monarchs.

Florek, who signed an Entry-Level contract with the Bruins March 25, led all Northern Michigan University scorers with 19 goals, while finishing with 17 assists for a career-high 36 points.

In four seasons with the Wildcats, Florek finished with 54 goals and 63 assists for 117 points in 157 games played.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound forward, who was also named a finalist for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Best Defensive Forward Award, led the Wildcats with nine power play goals and three game-winning tallies.

Much like Florek, Lake Superior State University defenseman Zach Trotman had success in just his first game with the Providence Bruins, as he scored his first AHL goal in his professional debut – a 3-2 victory over the Connecticut Whale on March 24.

Trotman, who also signed an Entry-Level deal the same day as Florek, had a career-high 11 goals and 10 assists in his junior season at Lake Superior State.

In 114 career games with the Lakers, the 21-year-old defenseman compiled 19 goals and 30 assists for 49 points.

On March 15, Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced the signing of Vancouver Giants goaltender Adam Morrison.

Morrison finished the regular season with a 36-17-3 record (2.82 GAA and .899 save percentage), but the Vancouver Giants were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Spokane Chiefs.

The 21-year-old goaltender’s 36 regular season wins set a career high, and in five WHL seasons he has a regular season record of 80-39-10 record.

This season, in his first playoff series appearance, Morrison finished with two wins, a 3.64 GAA and .874 save percentage.

On the same day the Bruins signed Florek and Trotman, Chiarelli also signed Michigan State University defenseman Torey Krug to an Entry-Level contract.

After the Spartans were eliminated in the second round of the CCHA playoffs, Krug joined the Boston Bruins Tuesday, March 27 for their morning skate against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“I’m just trying to get my feet wet and get a little experience,” Krug said March 27. “At the same time, I hope I can push the guys in practice and do whatever I can do to help the team win.

“Obviously, the coaches will make that decision [to play], but I’m here and my goal is to compete and work 100 percent, 100 percent of the time.”

In his senior season at MSU, Krug set career bests with 12 goals, 22 assists and 34 points to win the CCHA Player of the Year award.

His performance solidified his candidacy for the 2012 Hobey Baker Award, and he was selected as the Best Offensive Defenseman for the second straight season.

Krug shared the CCHA scoring crown (29 points) with Notre Dame’s T.J. Tynan, becoming the first defenseman to capture a CCHA scoring title since 1986-87.

“It was tough [to leave MSU],” Krug said after signing with the Bruins. “But in the end, the opportunity that the Bruins organization has provided for me – I think there’s no way to go back.”
