The Boston Bruins Week Ahead
THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS...

PLAYOFF CLINCHING SCENARIOS: Even though the Bruins do not play on Friday, the B’s will clinch a playoff spot on Friday if Buffalo loses their game to the Pittsburgh Penguins. If Buffalo wins on Friday, the Bruins can also clinch a spot with their next point.

SEIDENBERG WILL TRAVEL, MCQUAID WILL NOT: Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg – who is recovering from an infection to a cut above his left knee – will travel with the Bruins on their road trip to Long Island and Manhattan and is listed as day-to-day. While Adam McQuaid did not suffer a concussion on Thursday, he will be kept off the trip as his eye is swollen shut.

TIME CHANGES: Please note the following time changes for two upcoming Bruins games:
Sunday, April 1: at New York Rangers, will now start at 7:00 p.m. ET (TV: NBC Sports Network, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub)
Saturday, April 7 vs. Buffalo Sabres: will now start at 4:00 p.m. ET (TV: NESN, RADIO: 98.5 The Sports Hub)

UPCOMING GAMES: The Bruins head to New York for a back-to-back two game weekend, facing the New York Islanders on Saturday, March 31 and the New York Rangers the next day on April 1. Former Islanders Brian Rolston and Mike Mottau will match up against their past teammates who are 5-3-2 in their last ten games and coming off two consecutive 5-3 wins over Pittsburgh on March 27 and 29.

The NY Rangers have already clinched a spot in this year’s playoffs and lead the Eastern Conference with 105 points. The April 1 contest against the Rangers will air on NBC Sports Network and is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.

The B’s will return to the TD Garden on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have also clinched a playoff spot and are second only to the Rangers in the Atlantic Division with 100 points. The Pens are 5-3-2 in their last ten games played on the road.

Following the Pittsburgh game, the Bruins will travel to Ottawa to face the Senators on Thursday for the sixth and final time this season. The Bruins have won four of the first five matchups between the teams, their most recent victory being a 5-3 win on February 25.

Finally, for the team’s last regular season game, the B’s will return home to face the Buffalo Sabres for a 4:00 p.m. matchup at the Garden. The Sabres have reached a hot streak, going 7-1-2 in their last ten home games, and sit at third place in the Northeast Division with 86 points.

Jack Edwards, Andy Brickley and Naoko Funayama will call four out of five games next week on NESN (NBC Sports Network will air the Sunday game against the Rangers) while the tandem of Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will handle all radio duties on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Start times for the upcoming games are as follows:

3/31 @ NYI, 1:00 p.m. ET
4/1 @ NYR, 7:00 p.m. ET
4/3 vs. PIT, 7:30 p.m. ET
4/5 @ OTT, 7:30 p.m. ET
4/7 vs. BUF, 4:00 p.m. ET

123 AND COUNTING: Including the Bruins latest home game the Bruins have now sold out their last 123 home games at the TD Garden, including regular season and playoffs. This sellout streak began more than two years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

BOSTON MEDIA TWEET OF THE WEEK (TOTW): The Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa surges into the overall lead this week after garnering his fifth TOTW of the season. The winning tweet came during the Bruins/Lightning game on Tuesday, March 27 after Shawn Thornton - who earlier in the season had showcased his skills on a penalty shot – broke in alone on Dwayne Roloson.

@GlobeFluto: Thornton misses on breakaway. The lesson: Always go backhand sauce

And here are this week’s honorable mentions, in no particular order:

KOKO OUT FOR THE SEASON: Alexander Khokhlachev suffered a lacerated kidney on March 3 in the Windsor Spitfires’ contest against Plymouth and will remain sidelined for the rest of the season. FERLIN ON FIRE: Brian Ferlin of Cornell University was named Ivy League Men’s Hockey Rookie of the Year.  He is the seventh Big Red player to earn the award since it was first bestowed in 1980.  In addition he was named to the All-Ivy second team and was named one of the three finalists for ECAC Hockey Men's Rookie of Year Award.  He led the league in rookie scoring for most of the regular season until an injury kept him sidelined for the final three games and forced him to give up the top spot. Ferlin had seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 19 ECAC Hockey games, which is tied for second in rookie scoring.  Ferlin is tied for second on the team in overall assists (13) and points (21), while also ranking second with a +15 rating.
