Julien Gave an Injury Update
BOSTON, MA -- The injury bug has bitten the Boston Bruins again, and Adam McQuaid, driven hard into the boards by Washington's Jason Chimera on Thursday night, was its latest quarry.

"The cut he suffered over his eye this morning is shut, so it will probably take a couple days before that’s taken care of so he’s not going to make the trip," said Julien after the Bruins optional skate at TD Garden prior to the club's afternoon flight to Long Island, NY. "There’s no concussion, just a bad cut so that’s the situation so hopefully when we get back his eye will be a lot better, he’ll be able to see and go day-to-day from there."

Of McQuaid's fellow defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, who was cut by a skate above the knee in last Saturday's game versus the Kings in LA, Julien said, "He’s a day-to-day, and again he’s feeling good.

"It’s not a matter of an injury more than it’s making sure the infection is taken care of properly and we don’t have to take another step back and so-on and so-forth.

"So, we've got to be cautious and until our team doctors tell our trainers and our trainers tell me, that he's good to go, I can’t put him in the lineup. They decided that it’s day-to-day and we’ll keep checking it on a daily basis.

"When he feels comfortable they’ll give me the green flag to put him in," he said.

Julien also updated the media on the B's two other injured players, goaltender Tuukka Rask and forward Nathan Horton.

"He’s working out off the ice," said Julien of Rask. "He’s working out pretty hard and he’s doing very well, actually.

"He’s certainly a guy who is recovering very well."

But there was no new news on Horton.

"No, still the same," said Julien. "He’s working out off the ice, but still hasn’t been cleared to step on the ice."

In the meantime, Julien and his staff are working hard to keep any more of the B's from ending up on the injury report. Today the B's bench boss reiterated how much of a concern managing the schedule has become for the Black & Gold.

"Personally as a coach, you would always like to find a way to manage it better and that’s not from a lack of trying," he said. "I’ve kind of racked my brain around it a lot, looked at the schedule, looked at the travel, talk to the fitness and conditioning coach and find ways to help guys recuperate and recover...and I keep working on it all the time.

"I think [that's] an element that is very important right now at this stage," added Julien. "The schedule that’s dealt to you is the schedule you have to work with, and I was honest yesterday – it’s a tough second half.

"But at the same time, we kind of appreciate the first half not being as tough because of the long season we had and you just have to pay for it in the second half. We try to manage it, lately I think our game has been pretty good. We’ve been winning more than we’ve been losing, but you have to keep working with that and with two games in I guess, a day and a half, it’s one of those you have to work around.

"I think [with] today being an optional skate for the guys, I think I’m just looking for the energy for the games. As you saw yesterday, we needed that jump and our guys should know how to play right now, so it’s about focus and being ready mentally, and about bringing your energy to the game so we’re handling it the best we can," he said.
