SUNRISE, FL -- As the B's sat in their quiet visitors' locker room in the BankAtlantic Center, even some of the most veteran NHL players in the room were hard pressed to explain the B's 6-2 setback to the Florida Panthers.
"I don’t know what we did, but we did something," said goaltender Tim Thomas, lamenting what seems a complete loss of puck luck. "A lot of the times you get the luck you’re working for -- not that we’re not working -- we’re trying.
"[There] just haven’t been a lot of bounces like this in a long time."
Asked if the B's had used up too much luck on their way to the Stanley Cup championship last season, Thomas looked up, though about it and said, "Maybe."
But the goalie also explained that at least one very important item from the 2011 playoffs remained in the B's favor.
"We’ve done a good job of sticking together," said Thomas.
As he sat in his stall, a frustrated captain Zdeno Chara was saying similar things.
"Obviously, we have a great group of guys and guys that really care," said Chara. "We’re capable of doing it and [know] how we can play.
"We just have to find a way and get through it. We have to find a way to be more effective offensively, defensively all over the ice."
Chara also said that effort wasn't the issue.
"We try, we want all to do better, We want all to win," said Chara. "But sometimes, the more you try it’s even worse.
"I don’t know how to describe it really."
But forward Brian Rolston, one of the newest faces in the B's locker room -- albeit a familiar face for many Bruins fans -- seemed able to put his finger on a solution.
"Obviously, it’s nice to get on the board," said Rolston of his first goal in his second stint with Boston. "I certainly hope I can help [going forward].
"That’s what I hoped when I came in here.
"This organization, this team -- it’s about this team collectively," explained Rolston. "It always has been, and that’s why they won and that’s how we win."
