BOSTON, MA – On Monday, March 19 the Boston Bruins are teaming up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Boston firefighters to “Fill the Boot” and collect money for the MDA beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the TD Garden concourses, and continuing throughout the Bruins/Maple Leafs game.
Earlier this season, Boston Bruins Adam McQuaid and Shawn Thornton participated in the MDA’s 2012 Muscle Team dinner, where professional athletes put their muscle behind the search to find treatments for neuromuscular disease. While at the dinner, McQuaid and Thornton were each paired up with an MDA buddy. Their buddies, as well as a few special guests of the MDA, will be in attendance at the Bruins/Maple Leafs contest. Families will also be VIP guests of forward Patrice Bergeron through the Patrice’s Pals Program. They will take part in a variety of in-game fan experiences including bench assistants and high five the team as they take the ice.
In an effort to show his support for the Bruins Muscular Dystrophy Night, Tuukka Rask will visit firefighters at a local station on Wednesday afternoon, March 14 and will be joined by special members of the MDA’s Muscle Team.
The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) adopted the MDA as its charity of choice in 1954, at the urging of the Boston Fire Department, who began the Fill the Boot program in 1952. By partnering with the IAFF, the Boston Bruins hope to raise awareness about muscular dystrophy and elevate the cause by encouraging Bruins fans to “Fill the Skate” with donations.
The 2011-12 Boston Bruins season is presented by the Massachusetts State Lottery.
